I agree, but I’ll be surprised if it’s as big a jump over Zen 2 as Zen 2 was over Zen 1.

Will be interesting to see if AMD can move the cpu market forward.
Hoping for some nice gains across the board.

It'll be a big jump in single core performance but only slightly better in multicore
If the bench is to be believed, the 3700x > 5900x was 23% single and 75% multi.
The multicore increase over 3900x/5900x won't be 75%, more like 45% ish, or if they've managed to create something really special, then 55%+
If someone has a 3900x to compare with the 3700x, then you can work out the difference between them, be it a rough estimate at least.

It's not just the "on paper" speed though is it, the IPC, newer tech, heat, if gaming then min/max frames also.
For example, I went from a 4790k @ 4.7ghz to a 3600 @ 4.4ghz and paired with my 2070s, I had a smoother gaming experience. Benchmarks had considerably higher min frames, around 35fps from 8.5fps and my max increased by about 30fps.
AnAndTech don't go that far back for his CPU, it was all I had to use.

It's likely to be the go to for gamers due to the CCX. I guess it being cheaper won't hurt either.
It's obviously not accurate when a 4/8 core/threads beats a 64/128 by 7%

It's biased towards quad core performance, as Intel allegedly paid them, and Quad Cores were all that Intel were producing at the time.
I'm not buying this time around (waiting for DDR5 and the accompanying AMD CPU and board to go with it) but will be looking on with interest and hoping AMD can finally take that itsy bitsy teenie weenie blue polka dot gaming "crown" that Intel (and their fanboys/shills) are grimly hanging onto at 1080P with a 2080 Ti 3090.
