What no VIC20?

I had one when everyone had a C64

I got a vic20 for my 11th or 12th birthday I think, I'm 42 now.

My biggest computer milestone though was connecting to the internet for first time on a 14.4 modem with pentium 120 win95. The net was soooooo small.

C64 better sound/graphcs but poor games.
ZX better games, and its all about the games

No way, there were a handful of arcade conversions where the C64 version was a travesty but on the whole there were tons and tons of great games - unlike the speccy market which was mostly a UK only affair, the C64 had a vast catalogue of games from the US. Epyx ftw!

C64 for me. Green Beret, Elite, Parallax ...... hours of fun.

There was another game I used to love which was problem solving and two dog like creatures worked together. Each had different abilities but when standing on each other's shoulders they had all attributes. No, I'm not mad.

Grrrrrr, names escapes me.

A few more golden oldies from the C64:

Uridium
Paradroid
Mercenary (an early wireframe 3D game)
Yie Ar Kung Fu
The Way of The Exploding Fist
Spy vs Spy
Defender of The Crown
Manic Miner
Impossible Mission
Paperboy
Pitstop
Racing Destruction Set <-- great 2 player game
Thrust (originated on the BBC though)
Elite (also a BBC original)

I'd like to nominate Street Fighter II for the Spectrum as the most inappropriate port of a video game ever.

I ordered it via mail order and had to wait weeks.

Then after each "fight" you needed to change tapes.

Why I ever thought it would have been a good purchase or anything like the arcade version I never know.

This is worthy of a purchase :)

I had an amstrad cpc6128, awesome piece of kit, gryzor, jet set willy etc... looking at the videos above makes me realise the graphics weren't quite as amazing as I remember them :p

To be fair, I think the CRT added a certain charm to the graphics. A bit like how arcade games always look better on a CRT rather than on LCD with no scan lines.

Did anyone have an Atari 2600 console or a Commodore PET?

My friend had the Atari so I often used it and my school had PET’s so I have fond memories of them.

EDIT: Just realised while looking at that picture of the Spectrum above that it was way ahead of its time with a chiclet style keyboard :D
