I would just like to take this moment to apologize as in late 2006 i said i had overlocked my pc to 3ghz. When infact it was only 2.7ghz. I'm really sorry and I feel deeply ashamed. I just thought i would let you all know as its better you hear it from me before im exposed by fellow members.

/Skim read over..

Who hasn't overendowed themselves (or their exploits) over the internet in the past? Honestly, bit of a pointless thread unless the reason was to either embarass the person in question, or get him banned. A proper Motors post...

Wow, that's surprising.

I don't see anything wrong with this thread, it's nice to know who you are speaking to on here.

Consistency of rule application has been mentioned a lot in this thread, as though it's the simplest thing in the world. Different mods interpret different rules in different ways, some mods are upset by something another mod won't be upset by, some mods stick firmly to the rulebook and some use a certain amount of case-by-case judgement. Ensuring that all mods use an arm's length application of the rules on each and every occasion isn't easy nor particularly necessary imo. Life isn't fair, why should an internet forum be?

So it's been revealed that Lucero has one or more dupe / banned accounts from years ago. It isn't as black and white as an outright ban, when the new account has been used pretty well since. And I agree about the mustard cloth above; horrific! Not sure why he's taken that back though?!

As long as emotions are a part of humans, they will be a part of moderating. JanesyB obviously upset someone by correcting their spelling (and then having a massive row with them about it); he was unlucky in some ways, but if that mod backs down now, he'll only get twice as much 'why was he banned in the first place' compared to what he's getting already.

I'm actually a little overwhelmed by the support given to me in this thread. Support I know I don't deserve. For that, I'm truely grateful.

Its like grassing a kid in at school for something pointless.

I think it highlights some glaring holes in the applications of the rules round here.

Janesy was banned when a mod lost his patience with him and permabanned him. his only offence at the time (the straw that broke the camel's back in the mod's eyes) was correcting somebody's spelling mistake for them.

Meanwhile we have another poster who has been permabanned several times but because he's been alright this time he can stay ?

Not on really is it ?

I actually don't have anything against lucero, but if such leaniency is shown here, why not elsewhere ?

I do think that there a gulf of difference between saying you have 300bhp when you really have 295bhp and the sort of stuff that Lucero has posted.

I of course completely agree that "outing" a poster like this is 'sad and pathetic' whilst the actions described in said outing are entirely reasonable and exactly the type of trait we want in members here.

This forum did not tolerate Tom (my thread, btw), it did not tolerate Gav posting c&p'd spec lists (merlin), it did not tolerate portable sun guy (everyone?), it didn't tolerate mk1dubba and a long and illustrious list of others. I don't see a difference between those and this, bar the fact that there has been some time before Lucero was noticed as a returnee.

Debate the account on merit (or not) as you see fit, but you can't attack something ingrained in these forums that make them what they are - an intolerance of blaggers.

Since you'd be such an inflexible mod if you were in charge, presumably you'd also ban yourself for spamming Wikipedia pages? These moderating rules you keep referring to...where does it say that they are completely inflexible? How was it the straw that broke the camel's back if it was his only offence at the time? If he commited lots of offences, then you can't just take one offence and ask why was he banned for it.

Lots of questions that I doubt you'll be able to answer properly.

No Robbie I'd only ban you.

(p.s. change the record, or are you going to bang this drum for as long as you did the "i hate fox" one ?)

As long as hurfdurf stays a member of the unwashed it'll all work out ;)

Rest assured this is being discussed. It would be better if other banned members were not brought up again. each case is handled on its own merit, this being no exception.

So all banned members that show they are repentant should be allowed to stay? In that case a HUGE amount of posters should be unbanned/allowed to have a new account...but they won't be allowed, most, if they sign up again and post who they were, will get banned.

A huge amount were. Rather recently.

From what I have read in this sad thread L seems like a nice bloke -people change and for that they should be recognised. What good will banning him do? It's the Internet. He will just join up again... It would be a far greater accomplishment to win him over, but that appears to be the mentality amongst moderators here... Far easier to press the ban than try and engage with the person. Just something I have noticed.

Whoa, hang on, this thread wasn't started by moderators and at this point I do not believe any action has been taken! Chill your boots.

You're bickering like two little girls :D

Behave.

Lucero posts a fair bit in the Mobile Phone forum as well, never caueses a single problem and is really helpful

I don't understand why DRZ has such a strong agenda. Fine he has numerous accounts, but he has clearly proved he isn't the same as he was from 6 years ago!

Discretion can be applied
