Analogue 3D

Managed to snag one of these yesterday, is there anything I should get ahead of it coming? There is something above about the plug, do I need specific plug for it to work OK I assume besides that just need some pads.

Hi mate, bottom of the console states 9v 3a and the connection is USB C. It'll come with a USB C cable and HDMI cable, plus a 2 pin plug. So may want to source your own adapter. As it stands it only works with original carts, the summercart 64 and old everdrives (seemingly, before the x series).

Perfect, I'll have a look for an adapter. I have some original carts already so looks like I just need some pads.

Cheers!

You may have seen this already; Krikzz has released compatibility fixes for the X series. Only problem will be for pople that don't have their original N64 handy, as it's part of the update process.

It also doesn't work very well with overclocking options. Also I keep hearing reports of peoples saves being erased (flash and normal carts)

Any comparison with the MiSTer core yet?

I really wanted one and had one in the basket but couldn’t justify it with already having 4 MiSTer’s

I haven't had enough time with mine, but based on reviews appears to be fairly accurate. The overclocking features are really good and of course, if you don't already have a 4K scaler the upscaling/scanlines are a great feature to have.

I did take some footage of my original N64 and the A3D. But never get the time to do anything with it these days.

Honestly, the extra bells a whistles went under appreciated by me at launch! The extra detail on textures using the 32bit colour mode is really impressive. But I am fairly sure MiSTer has something similar with the clean HDMI mode?

A3D:

N64:

Edit: Both of those are captured at 4K. The N64 has a Retro GEM HDMI mod and is using DV1 via the 4K RetroTINK. Colour seems a bit different between the two, neither have HDR enabled. I think maybe the 'modern' filter on the A3D would have given a similar look to the original hardware colourwise.

Mine arrived last week but I have foolishly not got a controller for it lol.

And now I am waiting for one to turn up from Ebay.. so yeah. Hopefully I'll get to explore the N64 catalogue soon enough. I'm really loving everything I've seen online from this console which just makes the wait even more excruciating.

Nice of them to launch the limited edition coloured variants 2 weeks after launching the normal ones. Classy.
Yeah that is BS. I would have loved the Jungle Green one. I couldn't afford to double dip even if I wanted to. They should have saved it for the launch of the other N64 in the works.

Standard Analogue, saw it coming tbh. I've been through this too many times now; Pocket being the most recent. I decided i would give the experience a miss this time, even though I have several other Analogue consoles and really like them. Lengthy pre-orders, lack of comms, 'highly limited' BS and then high 'lack of priority' shipping costs. No thanks.

Going to wait for the M64 release, that looks promising.

Yeah, I'd pre-ordered at the start, and then cancelled. I then got FOMO when all of the reviews came out so I ordered during the first restock lol. More fool me I guess.

If I'd know about these I'd have probably waited but it's too late now..... so yeah.

Hopefully the M64 is good though. This has soured me on Analogue quite a bit.

Pretty poor of them to do it so close to launch, especially when some people who will have ordered the black and white ones wont have received their consoles.#

I am tempted by a grape one even though I've got a grape N64 hooked up and working great.

Gold and Grape models sold out already. Lasted 14 mins... not THAT limited :p

edit - Jungle gone too now @ 15mins

Tbf some of the additional features are nice in comparison to OG hardware. Depends on the set up I guess.

From some of the reviews, it sounds like each game you play with have a profile and you can tweak the settings on each profile. It doesn't sound however, like there's one ideal 'golden' setup that will apply to all games. Any comments on that from those who have the console?

I have 3x N64 PAL consoles; 1x standard, 1x with basic RGB mod and 1x advanced RGB mod. My intention was to mod the standard console with the PixelFX HDMI upgrade and sell the other two consoles. Now I'm wondering if the 3D is a better route as you can tweak the overclock for gamesthat will allow it.

Hmm... So apparently the Analogue 3D isn't quite there, as far as fully emulating a real N64. Not a total disaster, but also not the best news after spending a chunk of cash. I'm sure it'll get sorted in the end, but it's good that there are those out there, checking on these things.

I'll be keeping my OG N64s a bit longer then :D

I don't think the A3D will ever replace OG hardware but for most will be a convenient and great way to experience some old classics. 4K output and the additional bells and whistles for the price point is where this potentially shines. It'll be interesting to see how close the M64 gets on the accuracy side of things. I have not had much time with my A3D, but overall happy with what I have seen.
