Anandtech has closed

I imagine a lot of people just watch Youtube videos now rather than read tech articles?

I've visited the site for many years and am sad to see it go. I wonder how many of the current generation have the attention span to read a technical article, I bet it is not many. I'll always take a written review over watching some nerd tech video with a presenter who tries to make out he's tech genius but he's just another YouTube nerd. Grumpy old man hat off... :p

This is sad, I used to read AnandTech daily. And I get that's the problem, as Cutress said in his video, many people did in the past. But people's lives moved on, enthusiast PC hardware has definitely changed over the last 10-15 years, chasing those performance gains just isn't needed that much or possible anymore. Plus their editorial standards changed vastly after the publisher changes. So it's not surprising content quality went down hill when the best journalists get snapped up by the actual tech companies they wrote about.

This sort of news just makes me feel so so old :(

I saw a post on Reddit a couple of weeks ago, someone asking what this "big black box" thing was that their friend bought at a computer fair.

It was a Little Devil phase change unit and I couldn't believe the amount of posts from people who didn't know what it was. Made me feel very old.

Ah, the end of something I really used to enjoy reading, but I don't feel they've been relevant for years now. Something else that just didn't really adapt to the way things have changed.

I find it ironic that a tech company failed to move with the times..

I liked anandtech back in the day, and Tom's hardware I found used to be really good. But now I tend to stick with some of the youtubers gn for the tech side (though I don't like the new direction they are going in lately), and Paul's hardware cos I like Paul personality, Linus as I like the fun videos, I don't really see them as techy, probably more the tech equivalent to top gear.

Anyway the reason for the above is because since future took over the writing has become boring, anandtech doesn't really seem to have done anything of note for a long time, Tom's hardware is no where near as good as it was around 8 years ago.

Tis a shame but that's life and big corporate business for you I suppose

Ah anandtech. Such a shame. One of my favourite internet haunts in my teens. :(
Used that website to splash my dad's cash on a thoroughbred 2100+ and a 9600 pro back in the day...

I remember being on holiday as a child and my dad would take Computer Shopper and PC Pro, as I recall PC Pro is now just a skinny magazine aka ComputerActive and not the 300+ page behemoth it used to be.
