Anandtechs look at DX 12 in action with star swarm.

Things like 'W7 won't have DX12 support' is in a whole different league to 'sorry we've miss sold you your gpu, it's ok, return it for a refund-whoopsy no2. sorry you can't return it.'

Did you not get your 970 refunded? You seem quite angry about it bud.

Tommy pls don't derail the thread with that nonsense, it has its own thread.

Back on topic, dx12 will probably be more groundbreaking for gaming than any new gpu, but I'm excited to see both

See, I have seen that said a few times now about DX12 is here because of Mantle and I just don't agree. I don't care either way in reality and I am glad we have something that works close to the metal. I look at games like Tomb Raider and all 3 Titans run at 99% and I look at games like Hitman Absolution and all 3 GPUs run at 60%.... Bad coding or the API limitations? I just hope devs cater for us PC gamers and start to use it.

Respect to Microsoft and with us Windows 8.1 and 7 users being able to upgrade for free, I will be straight on it.

This is the question that is in my mind more and more often these days. Why are my gpu's not being fully utilised? Once dx12 is out and mature we will get a decent answer to that question I hope.

While it is in AMD s interest to not optimise dx11 for their mantle tech demo, that dx11 performance is poor. I do think AMD drivers have a fairly hefty cpu overhead so I look forward to seeing dx12 reduce this

As far as im concerned i will let the actual DX12 games do the talking when they get here.

And as far as AMD DX11 drivers, they have been closing the gap on the equivalent generation NV cards.
There has been plenty of threads around the net about it.

I still feel consoles get all the love, whilst us PC gamers become an after thought. I am not a programmer and could be wrong but when you take some games and see how they run, I question what is what. I remember having a big discussion about Star Swarm and moving a 1 to 0 in a cfg file made my GPU usage go from 40% to 80% and nothing else changed. The same smoothness was evident and the CPU usage was the same. Anyways, I am waffling....

Bring on DX12 and I will beg for devs to give me games that run smooth and problem free if needs be.

When all is said and done, from an AMD users pov, it's on a par with Mantle, and Nvidia users pov-performance is stellar as well, win win and like Iv'e always stated, can't wait for DX12 titles to arrive.

Did you not get your 970 refunded? You seem quite angry about it bud.

:confused:Iv'e only got a Kepler and RonsealMaxwell, don't envy your walk of life if 'whoopsy' is being associated with angry btw.

Ohhh, from the way you keep on about the 970 fiasco in thread after thread, I assumed you had one and had problems returning it.

My bad and you must have ulterior motives.

As for the DX12 performance, I quite agree and it is win win for both nVidia and AMD. No idea why the 980 is over 50% ahead of the 290X but I am sure someone will shed some light on it.

It looks like a real good time to be a Maxwell owner anyways :D

Motive- what part of ripping off the customer sits cool?

Sitting with 2 nvidia v 1 AMD system here, when Nvidia flat out LIED to it's target audience(me), then refusing point blank to help mugged customers out, that's lower than a rats testi imo tbh.

Dread to think what's going to be the drop off penalty for a 970 under DX12, it's going to be interesting considering the api has higher throughput than DX11.

Some serious anger there Tommy and don't take it out on me, I own nVidia and AMD as well, but I don't get so het up over a GPU. I believe pretty much all vendors are accpting returns now, so those with a 970 who feel like you do can return them and buy an alternative.

/end

I look forward to seeing some game results now. Bring them on please :) Even some 3DMark would be cool and I see that futuremark have been quite busy, so I expect to see something from them in time.

I could elaborate but I think things would kick off :S. The poor DX11 performance isn't entirely MS's fault though some of the blame lies at their door.

Not sure DX12 will really expose the flaws in the 970 but IMO nVidia should recall them and/or offer extremely subsidised upgrades to the next higher end GPU release at the end of the day its just not right I'd definitely be returning a 970 if I'd bought one.

Don't think anyone should read too much into this and whether this means it's good to be a maxwell owner currently.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but the results do look suspicious, so I would urge people to not 'feel' anything when looking at this.

And by suspicious, I am not saying anybody is doing anything to intentionally mislead, but rather that something simply seems off.

Yer, I have repeated a couple of time what Anand have said and that is not to read too much into it. Games/3DMark will be more telling. I do know that nVidia have been working closely with Microsoft mind and this could be why the 980 is so far ahead. Still, when we don't have much to go on, we tend to talk about what's in front of us and whilst it might be questionable, it does look good if you are sitting comfy with Maxwell in your machine.

Still a long way off before we get some games to play. I am excited none the less :)

*all a bit of a drama*

*hyperbolic vitriol*,*angry*, nope, not feeling it, 15 mainly jovial posts in the 970 thread and a few here and there, is hardly anger.

Watching yourself (predictably)trying to paint a negative untruth towards anyone's opinion that what Nvidia did is off are techniques wildly used to play a problem down:

'Can't help thinking you have monetary ties with Nvidia greg, my words are aimed squarely at them mate don't take it personally.'

People weren't born yesterday bud, refrain please.:)

Exactly.

Yer, no! :D

I have not seen this before and don't think it has been posted, so here is Futuremark doing DX11 Vs DX12

NV are not going to do that, but i doubt this situation is going to happen again anytime soon.

I can't help but think something is going on with either the AMD cards doing more work or the 980 doing less. The 290x dx12 scores are pretty much the same as in mantle so I don't see a problem there so either somehow the 980 is rendering less/secretly boosting like mad/or the 980 is an absolute beast who's performance has yet to be fully realised. Either that or the test just favours Nvidia
