and some thought i was wrong about the new xbox

It's a shame consoles don't have upgradable memory, cpu and gfx

MW

Not really, as that would just destroy what console gaming is all about. I mean the consoles that hit the market without a HDD was bad enough and limited peoples ability to play certain games. Throwing in to the mix so many CPU, GFX and Memory variations would just end up with poor console owners playing games at a limited capacity, and just because they cant afford the upgrade.

No, Consoles should never be upgradeable outside of storage capacity. They should release a console with a set spec, and developers should always develop around it.

That's a very old way of thinking about things. The PC/Console market will merge eventually imo and I would personally welcome expansions to gpu/cpu/ram later in a consoles life.

What if for instance I wanted to play MGS5, And I bought my Xbox Blah at a premium. Yet when MGS5 hits the market 6 months later it requires a memory upgrade.

Seems a really bad move. And no doubt any upgrades would cost a fortune on its own.

If consoles move in that direction, I'm sure they will lose their casual gamers.

Get a PC...?

The whole idea behind a console is that you buy the game, you throw it in and it works. No faffing about with upgrades, crap drivers or software clashes it's just the simple Plug 'n' Play.

The beauty of consoles are you buy a system and if it lives it will play any game that comes to that platform for the next 5 years or so no questions asked. Mega CD, 32x, N64 Ram expansion, It's been tried and failed. Not sure myself.

Only a child would believe that there isn't enough room for PC and Console gaming.

Only a child would believe that there aren't any good games to play on any of the console formats.

Only a child would take time out of his day to make this threat to "gloat".

In other words DG. Grow up.

Or they offer in game options to run the game for different specs just like PC gaming?

Well yeah thats an obvious option.

But still I just dont want to see the console go the way of the PC. yes the graphics are pretty on PC if you're willing to pay for it. But I just want to buy my console and play, and I dont want to have to pay again and again, just to keep it at the same level as others.

Give me a console with a lifespan, and then release the next generation when it ready. Leave upgrades to PCs

The amount of magazines i read in that PS2 was more powerful than any PC and then *facepalm* such a long time between consoles I think peeps have forgotten about this junk.

I doubt if the new consoles will even do 1080p natively and consistently.

The article smacks of desperation to get decent numbers for the last issue.

agreed, its going to be like this generation if you ask me. 1080p will be possible, but sacrificed for other things, like scope and visuals. Which to be honest, I have no problem with. As resolution to me is a distant distant requirement over other things.

I find it hard to believe the next gen consoles wouldn't cope with 1080p perfectly. It's not a very hard res to do and any decent TV nowadays is full HD.

Eh? Of course 1080p is hard to do once you consider DX11 effects (or the open standard equivalent) especially at high fps and with stuff like FSAA that most would expect from the next consoles. Thats even before you think of 3D compliance...

With specs no doubt already configured by now and to reach a reasonable console launch price - I definitely wouldnt say 'perfect 1080p' is a given at all...

I'll laugh loudly if the Xbox doesn't do 1920x1080 as a standard. Also 30fps is ample.

I really think they should give 3D a rest. It's just another fad that is on its way out. Leave it to the cinemas.
