4wd, 225bhp nothing special? ok mate :p

It might have been special in its time but no the above does not make it special Im afraid. You can buy Astras with more power let alone all the Scooby and Evos.

The only reason I would have it above my car is that I can sell it for a lot more money and thats it.

Now, but not then. You cannot compare a 1992 Escort with a brand new Evo or any other brand new car.

It's like me saying a Model T Ford is nothing special, it doesn't even have discs on the front like a brand new Fiesta does.

May be a stupid question but this will be my dilemma when i leave uni......

£15k will get you a 1995 Escort RS Cosworth Lux or a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7, which to choose?

Ive loved Cosworths my entire life, but the Evo makes more sense with value for money....

Some fantastic examples of my fave cars from "my era". When I passed my test I always wanted to get an Escort Cossie one day so all of the Ford RS cars have a special place in my heart, it's good to see that there are still some really nice examples around.

You should have come to the RSOC day at castle coombe recently!

RS Cosworth. The Evo doesn't mean anything to me, it isn't special, I don't look at it and think "Raaaah".

same.

the cossie, spawned cars like the evo and imprezza, back in the day, the evos and legacys couldnt touch em. yup they were always behind the cossies in rallys, it took years for them to get good, whereas as soon as the cossie arrived, it decimated ALL. thats one of the reasons why theyre special.

Well, I would expect a '93 Sti or Evo 3 to outgun one on any surface but maybe I'm wrong. These cars cost less to buy now aswell. The cosworth commands its price because of its icon image alone. This isnt something I disagree with. When it was released, it was a special car. Today it is special because it is a classic, not because of any performance ability.

The perofrmance isn't to be sniffed at, it is a very quick car.

0-60 - 5.5
1/4 mile - 14
Top Speed - 140mph+

I would love to own one of these cars one day, they are awsome.

Go for the cossie, however how old are you and have you had insurance quotes already?

Im 22 right now, with 5 years protected no claims bonus, however i doubt ill seriously be looking at buying the car for another year or so. Ive done a quick quote on the AA and thats been £2800 or thereabouts (right now) for the cosworth, which i would be quite willing to pay, however in a years time this will be lower and also i doubt that is the best quote i could get if i shopped around. Id expect to pay around £1500-£2000 a year to insure in a years time, i should imagine.

Only thing that will probably trip me up is finding a mint Pacific Blue Luxury Spec for the right price.

I'd definetly have the cossie, but I really don't like the new evos. The evo is a little too clinical, the cossie however, has bags of character.

You quoted me and I said they might have been special in its time. Im not directly comparing the two cars per se I was just replying with the fact I dont think the performance is special as a reply to chopchop as he said ", 4wd, 225bhp nothing special ?" It might be for some if they dont drive a fast car.

In the day of the Escort I was amazed by the car, but now I dont think its that special, not in a way that an AC Cobra is to me for instance.

I would have said the Audi Quattro did

Im an avid fan of the escort cossie and i do agree that engine wise it is nothing that a lot of normal cars now reach in terms of performance. however its got to be the looks that do it for me and it always will.
If i won the lottery, the first car i would buy would be an escort cossie :D
