Andor (Star Wars)

I tell ye what was boring, House Of the Dragons !! Without the dragons (action) that whole season was a borechore. This has so much more depth.

One of the critiques about Rogue One film was nobody cared much about the characters because they all died anyway. Well this is the backstory, for Andor, at least. Best thing on TV this year and the best Star Wars since ESB !!

I've enjoyed both HOTD and Andor in equal measure - both standout shows that I had little expectation going in that took me by surprise and commanded my full attention during each episode.

I guess you had to pay attention in HOTD cos it flew by at 100mph and dozens of names came and went. I still liked HOTD for what it was but it didn't have half the dialogue and politicalness that Andor seems to have.

If HOTD is a 6.5/10 for me then Andor is an 8.5/10

Pretty sure this series draws heavily on the original concept for Rogue One which was heavily redone due to it being "too war documentary" like.

That's fair - my complaints over HOTD would mainly be the speed at which it moved, time jumps and sometimes needless actor/actress changes. I'd put HOTD a 7.5/10 and agree that Andor probably edges it to an 8.5

Not sure how much of Rogue One has made it here given Tony Gilroy is the showrunner / writer and he was brought into Rogue One for heavy re-shoots to move it away from the bleak war film it was shaping up to be.

I wish we could get a better feel for what Rogue One was going to be like with the Gareth Edwards version. I think the suggestion was the battle scenes were much longer / Saving Private Ryan esq. I think in one of the trailers, you see some of the main cast running under AT-ATs along the beach which didnt make the final cut.

Dont think Gareth had much involvement with the series, I read an interview prior to the series and he said he might direct an episode but cant see his name credited anywhere.

Tony Gilroy would have been aware of a lot of the original concept, etc. from being brought in and it wasn't his decision to change direction he was just brought in to execute on that. I don't think it is exactly the original concept for Rogue One extended, etc. for a TV series but I do think it has been an inspiration for the TV show - as well as longer war scenes it was supposed to have much more character background, etc.

I still say this is better than most Star Wars stuff recently because there’s no space magic, no laser swords and no space wizards who, it should be remembered, are supposed to be very rare, so rare in fact that unless you happened to be in the right place, in the right town/settlement, on the right planet, at the right time, you’d never, ever have seen one. Billions of people/beings throughout multiple systems would have been born, lived and died and never, ever seen one. Han Solo said it himself and he was exceptionally well travelled, being a smuggler, although this was, what, 20-22 years BBY to use SW dating?

I've given up with this show made it to episode 7 it's so boring no wonder no one's watching it.

It is a little slow, but it's not boring. Seems people don't any patience any more for a building story good dialog or decent acting. Been so long since people have had it in a series I suppose.

Shame really, it's really quite good. Certainly better than the dross that's been out mascarading as Star Wars since Disney bought it. No androids will silly voices making stupid jokes, no issues with Men being sidelined and made to look stupid at every opportunity. It really is quite grown up and looks amazing.

For every person that says there is not enough action, there is another saying the Mandalorian lacks story and character progression.

I think we just need to lean that not every show is for everyone, I for one am looking forward to watching the last two episodes, its a great show and for very different reasons to the Mandalorian.

I wouldn't sit down and watch the Mandalorian and 'take it all in', its a very simple show that's great for when you have a long day at work and you just need some light weight entertainment which as an adult you can turn your brain off and enjoy.

Andor on the other hand is a much 'heavier' and much more of a serious show aimed at adults, its packed full of story, atmosphere and grit. If you blink, you miss something critical in every scene, you do need to actively watch it to take it all in.

That's why I haven't rushed to watch them all, I've been very busy and I want to watch it, just not when my brain is in a state that even EastEnders's Star Trek Discovery would probably satisfy it.

Got to episode 10 and although it plods along in places I'm really enjoying it. It gets better the further you get into the series.
