Will there be a OTA update? I'm not confident with flashing things.
Oh for the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet
yes, i think there will be , but different devices will get them at different times

That's what you get when phone manufacturer's tweek it to there own spec, once an update is out they have to add there stuff to it before they release it. So nothing to fix,blame your phones maker not android. that's why I went for one with a stock android os

Having the latest Android version means very little to me. Rather have a stable properly working version.

When I first updated to lollipop, it was pretty bad but since clearing the cache etc., performance has been pretty good, still not as speedy/smooth as kit kat but nothing to get stressed over
Battery life varies a lot for me even when I was on kit kat so I just stick it on the charger every night now and have no problems getting through a day of heavy usage.
There are a few other niggles but at the same time, I couldn't go back to 4.x.x, it just looks so dated now and I couldn't live without some of the new features that 5.x brought.
I don't mind waiting but not for 3+ months and it will probably be another 3+ months till Samsung, htc etc. get 5.1.
I always love it when manufacturers say so so update will roll out in the next week/month or whatever and they miss that ETA by about 2+ months I rather them just not give any ETA tbh.

WHAT?! GET OUT!!!!!! How can you still be using that GS 3 and especially 4.1.2 especially after having used all the latest phones like the note 4
I do miss the holo theme a lot and hated the all white look of LP but... it has grown on me a lot and I find KK quite dated looking in comparison now. I would prefer a dark theme choice though like what we have for the google keyboard.

Colleague of mine has got a bricked nexus 7 thanks to hangouts of all things updating!! stuck in bootloop erasing ram lol
sticking with kittykat for now, at least its nice and stable not a memory leak fest like 5 currently is.

You'd be surprised at how well it runs for old hardware. It's finally feeling a bit too long in the tooth now with some of the new updated apps coming out. Perfect timing really as I'm happy enough with the S6 to go for it. Note 4 was nice but just too large for me.
Yeah not too fond of the light theme. I'm happy Samung have added a themeing engine on the S6.
You don't want 5.0. It has a serious memory leak which affects devices.
Some people supposedly don't notice it, but it is there where manufacturer hasn't already patched it (i.e. Nexus devices).
Can't say that the "memory leak" has bothered me much at all when it comes to general usage but then I don't have many apps installed and only 1 homescreen with 2 widgets, I have noticed it with chrome and tabs though...
Yeah I think my one s "could" have lasted for another year as it was pretty damn nippy and good battery life etc. but I CBA with rooting and wanted to get on the latest software so went for the n5.
I must say that the more I see of the GS 6, the more it grows on me and I really want to get back to a OLED based display too.... I just wish Samsung would go down the same road as Moto, just add the tweaks but don't mess with the theme/layout and provide FAST updates.

How can this be, apps are in user space and can't affect any part of OS or boot?

It can't. Unrooted deviced cant touch the OS to bugger that up. OTA update is probably the only thing and these are checked by Google.
I suspect someone has been messing with their device and broke it not knowing what they have been doing!

can you flash 5.1.0 (LMY47D) over 5.0.1 (LRX22C) and still keep data intact? (nexus 5)
