Your old phone has to be on 6.0 M for it to work though right?
It seems to be that way! Step in the right direction for newer devices, Hopefully they'll find a way to do it for devices running older software.

The documentation on the feature rather plainly states, "On devices running Android 6.0 (API level 23) or higher, the default system behavior is to back up almost all data that an app creates." All the tutorial flags will be cleared, and if the developer does everything right, even push notifications will start working without the user having to do anything.

Restore won't just work for apps from the Play Store, either. Sideloaded apps and apps from third-party app stores should also have their app data restored when they are installed.
Are you guys all installing it from the settings menu in android? Are Google staggering the rollout as my friend has it on his but still no sign of it on my nexus 5?
I've been mashing the "system updates" tab for the last week or so, but to no avail. I got the update pop up earlier in the notification bar saying that 6.0 was available to download. Google do stagger the rollout. It's frustrating having to wait but I'm sure you will get the update in the coming days. Are you guys all installing it from the settings menu in android?
