Android vs Windows

Who it is for is a big factor I feel.

We all have Android, excluding my mother... she just cant use it.

Too much on screen, windows can be made to be very simple... perfect :)

I know you weren't after phone recommendations but the MotoG is a brilliant phone.

Android OS is great. There has never been a time that I have used either a Windows phone or iPhone that has caused me to want to change.

Just use a launcher and a theme then, easy!

Obviously phone OS is all personal preference but...

I find Windows Phone to be more slick all round. Not as many apps but the official ones (in my view) tend to be built better and integrate better with the OS. It is just all round more intuitive.

We overspill into every thread haha.

Nexus 5 isn't a bad shout is it? What currently has amused me is I'm being called a liar regarding owning a lumia 930.... offered the guy a screenshot of my trade in email or a photo of the box but no response as of yet!

I have a problem with being indecisive, not being a typical online bs'er ::p

It's really tough isn't it :(:p:o Nexus 5 for £150 isn't a bad shout is it? Shame its only 16gb but there is no way I'm paying £340 for a new 32gb one now!

Android can be made to look virtually identical to Windows Phone as well. I even posted a screenshot of my Note 3 a while back with Win8 Launcher applied.

But why? It's a bit naff.

My work phone is a Lumia 925, I deploy Windows phones all the way from 520 and up. They do the job but the number I get back for repair is unbelievable. The screens break too easily and they look tired and worthless after half a year unless they have been in a case the entire time.

Windows Phone updates also,

1: Take ages to download on WiFi.
2: Take ages to install.

The Marketplace is better than it used to be but still not a touch on Apple Store or Play Store.m There is simply no comparison.

The keyboard is just rubbish.

The Windows Phone dialler is not logical and offers little in the way of settings to change. The in call quality on all of the Lumias I have haven't been great, only satisfactory.

As a work tool they do the job, they are cheaper than Android phones and are more disposable tools than anything else. But then again Android has very good enterprise support as well and can be more locked down than Windows Phone, should you administer it as such.

You can make it look like windows phone all through the OS that's as slick and has fully working live tiles for each app?

Why does your work not use Droid based phones then? Cause working for a national company, they wont touch Droid.

The keyboard is just as good swipe and new ideas in WP10 look even better.

I love how here that Droid is seen as some kind of Demi god by people. One of the biggest problems here really, and I wish the OS's had their own sub forums.

We do have droids at work, just they're not recent ones because the current contract I have is with EE and one criteria of that contract dictates the hardware fund only applies to Nokia and iPhones. It's more office contractual politics than a neglect for anything Android. My personal phone is connected up to work and it is used as a work phone during work hours, simple, the same applies to colleagues who choose to work that way too.

Why would it need to look like WP all through the OS? The pulldown in WP is pants and has limited functionality, the settings screens are also very basic and simple, yes this works for many but there's nothing special about it or feature rich. The homescreen, widgets and app drawer are where 99% of all user interactions begin and that's where Android cannot be beaten at present.

I think WP users should prove how good WP is by changing the home screen layout, icon pack and font, and then upload a video of them doing it to YouTube while connected over a VPN, and then change the default keyboard and post back here using a mainstream alternative browser to IE....

WP is nice, but lacks the apps so prefer android. As for android vs iOS, I think it has a way to go. Ios6 IMO was great and nicely refined, but on my 4s, 7 was a dog and kept crashing apps, etc. Not sure what 8 is like.

I don't see the Windows Marketplace improving too much in the future unfortunately. Developers just don't see any reason to develop for the platform.

Android has advantages over iOS hence why it reasonably quickly got some big app developers on board. WP has no such advantages.

I'm hopeful Windows 10 and it's "universal platform" approach will make a difference. Developers will be able to create a single app that will work across all Microsoft platforms, that's pretty big.
