Anjem Choudary Convicted :)

I hope he gets bummed daily.

he's going to a UK jail not a US one

though he might well enjoy that sort of thing, although Islam is generally against it there are some who argue that Mohammed himself enjoyed the company of men and boys in addition to his well documented philandering

tis quite common among males in Pakistan so maybe it is his thing

Along with pretty much everyone at that time... And it's not as if the "use" of young boys was uncommon all over the world at that time either, so he may well have been.

I get the feeling this won't be the last time we hear from this **** though.

This.

He is very influential. He will spread his radical views across the prison population and convert them by the dozen. Those who don't convert will be beaten to death by Choudary's newly-converted 'henchmen'. There will be a culture of fear across the prison's workforce too.

You have no idea how much work moderating a thread like this entails. Especially on a phone. Anyway, post above also deleted. Problem?

not sure what was in the deleted post but I can back up my statements with evidence is required :)

Edit - oh, my bad - so it was John40's post being refered to and Freddie1980's post the one deleted later. (I'm assuming)

How is mine offensive?

It is historical "fact" that girl way younger than puberty* were married off all the time up until fairly recently, all over the world, including Europe. Mohammed was little different to the Kings of (and many others in) Europe in that regard.

The use of young males was also fairly widespread throughout history, again, all over the world.

Neither were necessarily common, but they weren't necessarily uncommon either.

You can't put modern morality on historical events.

On the other hand saying that Mohammed's marriage (which, as mentioned, wasn't particularly unusual in a historical sense) is obviously where modern muslims supposedly get their attraction to young girls, citing a group of criminals as an example, is offensive generalisation.

* Useful to remember that historically puberty generally occurred much later in life for girls than now

EDIT: oh, not my post, but the one above then?

Well it wasn't necessarily a general widespread trend but did occur within some cultures at various times - the ancient Greeks for example

re: marriages sure - people got married and consummated those marriages to people below 16, though usually still teenagers at least. Marriages with anyone younger wouldn't generally be consummated. That is one area where Mohamed seems to get some criticism.

No, certainly it wasn't overly common, but it occurred throughout history, and wasn't necessarily seen as wrong.

As I said, things need to be put in a historical context, and can't necessarily be judged with modern morality.

You need to delete Amp's post too - regardless of whether it's true or not there's plenty of evidence regarding the first post you deleted.

You are welcome to discuss moderation decisions in FCD as I mentioned above.

The posts that have been deleted were clearly offensive. I see no issue with Amp34's post.

None of them were offensive - it just seems it's ok to make generalisations about some groups and not others. You just need to be consistent.
