Some farms need to be connected to other buildings, some don't. Cider farms for example don't need any other building other than a warehouse because they produce a final product, but hemp farms produce an item that makes another item, therefore hemp farms need a rope and/or linen maker as well as a warehouse in their range.

You don't need the rope / linen maker in range of the hemp farms, they don't even need to be on the same island aslong as you ship the hemp.

produce cider on your main island for your peasants, produce dates on the desert island for your nomads, no need to buy cider at all.

does anyone know? Im getting fed up now.

You need to follow on and complete the given quests, they'll eventually gift all of the children as reward.

Loving this game right now; I decided to quit on chapter III and dived straight into a continuous game - awesome. What is military like in this game? Combat? I haven't seen any so far...

You sure? When you select a linen maker for example the hemp buildings light up green as if it needs them. Plus there are little guys walking from the hemp farms to the linen maker with stuff in hand (not the guys dragging the carts around, the guys carrying the hemp are walking).

He's right :) I used to have a second island with all my farms, my ships would ship the hemp over and the carts would distribute the hemp to my linen huts :) you don't have to have them next to the farms, it is sometimes better as it doesn't require carts to take the hemp etc. to the manufacturing facilities. But it can be safer to have your manufacturing on one island and your farms on another. Say you stock up with say 100 tonnes of hemp and say 75 tonnes of linen cloth, if your ships get sunk if you had all farms and huts on one island you'd only have the 75 tonnes to rely on, but with your warehouse full of hemp you can last longer as you have a bigger buffer, maybe it gives you time to build some warships before your population revolts.

Edit : Assuming you have your stockpile and manufacturing on the island with your housing.

There are two ways of going about it, your carts pick up the hemp and bring them to the warehouses, those little guys then take it from a warehouse to the linen / rope maker. Or you build the linen / rope maker next to the hemp farms, the little guys go direct. Building near offers advantages... saves on cart time and really you don't even need to connect your warehouses to your farms with road... but then you may wish to separate your farming / production to different parts of the island or over different islands.

Oh, well that's good to know :) Currently I've had all my hemp farms within the immediate vacinity of my rope makers and linen makers.

But I am producing cider but it appears it does not get stored.

Because it gets used by your population straight away. Take a look at your warehouse, if there is a red arrow pointing down over cider, then you need more cider plantations. If there is no arrow, you should be fine, but you'll need more cider if you place more houses. If there's a yellow arrow pointing upwards, you have more than enough cider plantations (although I doubt you'll see this, because it isn't getting stored).

im struggling on the children mission too. I seem to have done all of the missions given to me, all that is left is the trophy "main" one, and the one saying to deliver the children to the monastery? Am i missing something?

Is there any way to stop other computer players trade ships coming to particular warehouses? Just I have my own trading routes coming from them, and one in particular has about 4 ships going to it and they are already producing a queue at the warehouse at some point and the last thing I need is another computer players trading ship adding to it.

I think if you build a pier then all the ships can dock at the same time. Not sure though as I haven't needed to build one yet.

I know harbour master buildings allow an extra ship to dock at the same time, and I think piers do the same, except they can be built out at sea, so you can get loads if you have to. My setup at the main island usually consists of the warehouse, a harbour master, and two piers. I never get queues.

the thing is I think harbour master buildings count as a different docking point to warehouses. Where as piers link to whatever building is closest, warehouse or harbour master building and act as an extra docking slot.

If you place a warehouse down and then a harbour m building next to it, then set your ships to dock at the warehouse they wont use the harbour master building if the warehouse is full I dont think, it counts as a different destination in the routing map.

I think...

Expanded some more, got a few islands just growing stuff and had my first nobleman move in earlier. I really love the pace of the game, especially on the Elector scenario, since I can just sit and focus on one aspect (improving orient for example) and my town is running fine and I don't need to constantly move around fixing stuff.

I'd hate to be an achievement whore and own this game, so so many of them.
