Yeah, I've got two islands.. one occidental, and an orient. Currently trying to keep it that way and not mix them. Plenty spices coming from the orient to my occidental, even have loads spare to flog to other (AI) players.

Not playing any scenario or campaign.. just playing continuous game.

I don't get it then. I have no mixed islands. Maybe it's to do with diplomacy between the other factions but I can't remember needing to do anything other than supply the needs in the progress bars.

Have you built the tavern? a lot miss that.

I'm playing a continuous game on the largest map and have turned off the computer players. Can't be bothered fighting for resources/land yet, i want to build up my city :)

Beer/Bread always seem to run out pretty quickly!

Make sure all their needs are at least 95%. It often looks like all their needs are satisfied when they're actually only at like 91% or something.

Just got this for my new machine (i7, 4890, 6GB) and everything is on very high, by default. AA is not on though (by default) but I see no performance hit when using it at 2x.

Scrolling across islands with trees it shudders, which is quite annoying! Playing at 1920x1200, is anyone playing this with the same kind of settings as myself, or higher?

I'm on max detail 1920x1200 too. AMD X2 6000, 6gb ram and 4890 too. The only time it ever lags is when the hud brings up animated people at the top right.

Got the limited edition of this last night, my god you guys were right. I ended up playing 12 hours straight without even noticing, wonderful game, you can just tell the team put their hearts into every bit of it :)

And regarding a comment above, the HUD lag is apparently caused by a bad crack for the pirated version of the game.

I'm on my laptop, 2.13 ghz intel centrino 2 and Nvidia GT 130m. This game is pretty much the only game that I can run on 1920x1080 with medium settings

I'm running it at absolute max detail, with the rig in my sig (at 1920*1200). I tried lowering the AA a touch, because there's no discernible difference between 8Q and 16Q, but I can't spot a performance difference either.

However it lags when going over AI towns, because for some reason, there are millions of people all gathered round the marketplace. Literally, you cannot see the floor. Does anyone else get this?

Are there any websites that detail what everything in this game does?

The manual is absolute rubbish, so how are you meant to understand what (for example) tools do and so on? Play through and wait for the eureka moment or the computer to tell you? I've started a map game, not the campaign, but I'm just bumbling along at the moment.

It's very "learn as you go along". If you play the campaign, it should explain a lot of things to you. It's the first thing I did.

Let us know what you're missing, and we'll explain it to you.

Tools, for example, are used in the construction of almost every single building, so it's important to get tool production up as soon as possible, because until then, you have to buy tools.

for me it's not really the kind of game where you need tons of AA. It looks gorgeous even with it turned off completely and you get much less lag. Only time I can spot any aliasing is sometimes on the ships sails.

I really liked this game for a while but I find it really gets bogged down during the mid game trying to satisfy all the patricians needs. They could probably have done better by giving an extra need to the citizens before they go up to patrician instead of loading it all on the patricians. I just find myself getting bored around that point where it just becomes a game of how to fit as many fields into one small space as possible.
