ANNO 1404

Thank the lord I have completed the campaign. No other game has resulted in me playing past midnight and almost in an instant, realising it was 6am a little later!!! How did 6 hours go so quickly?!!

What is passive trading?

If you click on one of your warehouses you can see three 'tabs' in the bottom left. The bottom tab has a coin symbol on it which is where you enter passive trading.

Once there you can select which items you want to buy or sell. You then adjust how much you want to buy/sell and also how much you want to charge/pay for said items.

Then the AI trading ships start turning up periodically at your warehouse to buy and sell.

Also, you definitely looking for brine deposits and not salt deposits? It confused me at first but you build a salt mine on a brine deposit.

I think I need a brine deposit, for a salt mine, I think :p

Ok cool, yeah I did that passive trading before, didn't think to try it for this :)

Thanks

I know it's dangerous loading this game up at 11:30pm but what the hell!

Nope, no crashes. Even after playing constantly for more hours than I care to think about.

Pal of mine has a pirated version: No crashes but no wood production. The logs just pile up and don't get picked up. And yes, they are connected to the main pathways and market places etc.

legal copy here, even though I'm on my second activation, and no crashes at all etc. I just wish a continuous game would load quicker.!

You can't get leather on Chapter 4, because there are no rivers for tanneries. So you can't get noblemen on that level. Just carry on with the quests and complete the mission.

Yeah I didn't realise, I thought I needed to build the large warships (it asks for 2 of them) because just before that quest came up it asked me to build a large shipyard. To build the large warships you need noblemen I believe, so I was confused at how I could progress. Turns out I only needed small warships

I managed to get noblemen last night but ran out of money and they all started a rampage (again - sigh!) I couldn't of been far from finishing the mission as I was upto the part where I was given some asian ships to fight with that evil lookin dude, managed to blow most of his ships but leaving 2 left and all mine got wasted. Got fed up with it and switched off after my cash ran out. Just not used to these types of games, but the hours don't half pass whilst playing - 9hrs yesterday and no crashes for me, none at all since i've had it.

Re. Crashes, had one yesterday. Downloaded from Steam.
Its abit annoying because my last save starts with a multitude of "...production has ceased..."
Have just played continuous campaign. Think i made the error of populating every island i can as oppossed to just farming resources/ one main populated island. Abit of a nightmare keeping my people happy.

Go to the Start menu and Run:

%appdata%\Ubisoft\Anno1404\Config\Engine.ini

The Engine.ini file will open, and then simply change 1 to 0 in the following lines:

<LockCamera>0</LockCamera>
<CheckCameraDistance>0</CheckCameraDistance>

Easy as that. You can always change them back again.

It would be a shame not to try this, because it adds heaps of joy to playing the game!

EDIT:
Oh, btw, when you have changed this in the ini, you have to press the END key ingame to use this completely free camera! If you want to use the default views again (the three zooms), simply press END again. (The default views are of course a lot easier when you've got some work to do.)

You could also change this line (0 to 1 this time):

<EnableFourthCamPosition>1</EnableFourthCamPosition>

It will give you an extra zoom view with the default views (accessible only when zooming in with the mousewheel).

You can zoom all the way down to ground level as well as zooming out quite a bit more.:)

but what does it do?

if you use the normal levels of zoom you will find that you are restricted to a limited amount that you can zoom in. Using the above I can now zoom all the way into the clay pits to see them mine the clay or watch the children play with their toy horses in the town centre. The opposite would be to zoom further out, although going too far can give strange effects, to gain a better overview of your island and surrounding area.

Oh my.. had my first chance to play this last night. Though I'd just fire up an easy game at 8pm to get a feel. 2am I was still playing and noticed the time :(

Finding Mission 6 somewhat tricky. Keep running out of materials and money. :(

Yeah, I did too on that one. Don't worry about trying to win, just hold them off as long as possible. It's quite easy to finish the mission actually, a lot of it you can just watch, but I reckon it'll be VERY hard to do all the side missions (like the Noblemen one).

Follow what Marie D'artois says and you can't go far wrong.

Now this sounds a little thick here but if I'm on an island where I can grow herbs (I assume) then I need s monastery brewery to brew beer, if I'm right..? I can't seem to figure out how to brew beer to advance my citizens..? I can see the tavern symbol to build a tavern but how do I get to make beer in the first place..? Do I need particular "rights" on certain islands and then the available seeds or something ..?
