Anno 2070

Played this pretty much all weekend. A wee bit buggy as all Anno's tend to be on release but nothing that seems to major.

I think it's good next installment of the Anno series and feels like more than just a re-skin of 1404.

Some production and consumption info now seems to be getting published. Some stats can be found here http://odegroot.nl/anno2070/

I am enjoying it, I just don't feel the same sense of attachment with it being set in the future. I'm not sure why, I just felt...more a sense of achievement playing a game set in the past .

I know exactly what you mean. That was part of the "charm" of previous games.

I've always liked the "maths" aspect to the game and how much of a head **** it is working out supply requirements and setting up complex delivery routes once your population is 3,000+ on multiple islands with the wrong resources! With new factions/races, thats expanded that aspect of the game for me so will keep my interest for a while yet!

On the previous game I used to make a big deal of moving all production off my main island and leaving that one for population space. But in this game you get punished for doing that as you would need power and environmental balancing per island which adds to the expense. Also with the maps being smaller I cant see me ever being able to produce enough resources to have an island covered in housing which is a shame.

Yeah, I find that limitation quite annoying actually.

Always meant to play 1404 but never got around to it... Big question is this a better game or should i still look to play the original?

ps. fan boys either way need not apply.

Theres a lot of benefits to either game atm, its still too early to tell which one has the longevity. But to be fair if you're on a 50/50 split between 2 games that are great, and one is £35 and one is £10 including the expansion... Go with 1404 :p

Enivonmental balancing would be very easy on a housing island, as you just make sure every block is covered by a recycling facility (Which IMO are completely OP).

I am disappointed by not being able to have some way to deliver energy to an Island, but i've not seen the late game tech yet.

I think he's meaning more along the lines of having an industrial island with a huge negative eco balance, so it massively affects the production %.

I am also, I was hoping/expecting some way to be able to deliver power from underwater generators to islands, as an example.

Well I guess this is kind of the point of the Tycoons :P

I know what you mean though, in 1404 my end game was always one or two islands purely for storage, then an island or two purely producing end stage products, then other islands purely for production that used fields.

Haven't yet played as the Tycoons, can you expand a bit more?

I don't know as i've not yet played Eco in order to compare.

What I do know is when you reach 3rd Tier Civ you unlock Techs for Tycoons, and when you reach 4th Tier Civ you unlock Eco for Tycoons.

Supposedly the difference is that Tycoons have far more efficient and cheap energy/production but tank the eco-balance much harder.

Indeed same things flipways for ecos. We get tech at teir 3 and tycs at teir 4.

When do you get access to subs and the underwater stuff as Tycoons? I'm up to Engineer population but none of the builds look like they will offer this?

teir 3 when you get techs. Once you get to this stage you either get gifted a sub or can buy one from your ark.

Yeah just worked it out with the techs, didn't realise they had their whole seperate needs :( Too many people to keep happy lol
