3?Eh, do you have to unlock them or? I only got two to choose from.
Yeah you start with 2 but both factions start to use tech half way through! So that counts as 3

How does it work? Most continuous games I play last for days, so can you "save" a multiplayer game and reconnect it at a later date?

I've never played any anno online. Is it like the usual rush and fight thing going on or is it more setting up a trade network and co-operating on achieving things? I like the idea of that![]()
I've never used combat in 1404 tbh. With online, me and a mate settle on seperate islands and expand together and trade etc. So one can produce one goods type and the other another and trade up. Or both doing solo stuff and chatting. Its very relaxed.

I have a question; Does anyone here play this game with NPC Opponents? Seems to me everyone loves these games for the city building and logistic planning and don't care about the combat.
Don't get me wrong, that's what I love. I must have spent 200+ hours on 1404 with no enemies, just building. I only produce weapons in order to passively sell them really, with a few warships later on for when the quests start having a few enemies to deal with.
On my continuous games I have npcs, but just as a "damn they settled the island I wanted" kind of threat. I tried combat on 1404 and quickly gave up after the first island in favour of buying their lands instead. Combat is definately not well developed on these games.

You also need NPCs to trade with!

Well even without a proper npc player you still have the random arks sitting around begging for your stuff.
