Enjoying this so for but another to the list of poorly performing games on my Crossfire 6970's.

Yeah, not performing amazingly well on my 6990 either.

Getting into a continuous game now - can someone explain trading to me. I have set fish and tea to trade, but where are they trading to? The global market? They don't seem to be making me any money and I don't seem to be shifting them.

Do you mean the passive trade in the Warehouse menu? If so, you're trading those goods when ships come to your port. The three Arks will send ships and I believe the other AI will too if you have them on.

The slider bar represents what you will sell down to. You can set it to sell down to 40 Tonnes of X, so if you have 60 tonnes in stock you have 20 that can be sold if the buyer wants them. In 1404 as you progressed the AI would develope bigger trading fleets with more money but i'm not sure how that works in 2070 yet but I assume it does.

One important thing to note is each buyer likes different items, and will pay more or less depending upon their prefences. I don't know what those items are yet but as a general rule of thumb, weapons are always good, as are tools for all buyers. Further up the tech tree when you get stuff with multiple production steps sell for lots, but tend to be to only one faction. Single production step items (Fish etc) generally aren't too great.

So far, I've setup a weapons production line for selling on each island, and on those islands that i'm not currently constructing on I set my tools to sell down to about 50% of my max storage. In 1404 ropes were always an excellent sell to all traders but I don't know what the equivilant item is in this game yet.

Anyone with Performance problems..

Disable Vsync
Put Processing Effects to Low or Medium
If that doesn't work Disable AA

Those Post processing effects and AA in this game really kill the frame rates through the major cities :)

Thanks, Post Processing on low made a big difference.

Sounds daft but the game looks better for it too, less blurry.

Is it as good as, or better than Anno 1404 then?

Any DRM?

IS the CE worth it?

I was say about the same atm. Theres a lot of new content and a shiney game engine, but I'm trying to decide if having research makes the game more goal oriented. We know games with goals dont last as long as ones without (simcity, 1404, minecraft) So I'm waiting to see how long my enjoyment lasts after I've researched everything :p

Basically if you have 1404, buy this. You wont be dissappointed.

I'll wait till its cheap :)

Would have gotten the CE for £40 if it had the little Solar toys, but it doesnt, no collectables other than the box and artbook which is meh.

Solar toys? Is this a new style of recharging vibrator I havent heard of? Or one of those lego renewable energy sets?

I had the post processing effects set to high and now turning them to low I am surprised at how better the game looks. For me the detail of the buildings etc is a lot more sharp and way less blurry.
Still in two minds on whether to continue with the campaign or jump into a sandbox type game. I did all the campaign of Anno 1404 and it did help in introducing new elements to learn etc at each passing level. I shall see how I go on.

I'm glad I bought it though as it is a worthy addition to the series.

I don't have any AI on. Have had no traders visit my island yet :(

Do you specialise each island into a particular role e.g. making weapons, or have a mix on each? Should there be an island just for housing, or should every island have houses?

God no! All housing should stick to one island. In early game times you should try and get at least 4 different productions on the start island too, and shift them off island later on. End game consists of squeezing as much housing on one island as possible while having 100% of production on other islands.
Trust me if you have multiple islands of housing you will start to have trouble balancing the materials across them. Although atm I have tycoons, techs and ecos all on different islands, but thats cause I'm weird :p

If you want a peaceful game, you should still have at least the basic three Ark characters on. They won't settle islands or attack you, but will trade with you and give you quests.

I still havn't gotten end-game on 2070 yet, but in 1404 I would have two islands with housing (One for each faction) with the only non-housing being the buildings that were gathering raw materials on that island.

During the mid-game in 1404 I would typically have one or two other islands settled with 75 peasant houses, 3 fish huts and 2 cider farms each which would net 700-800 gold each and acted as a nice income buffer when teching up.

In 1404 my end game would involve having a buffer island that would produce basic building materials (Wood, tools) and finish the chains for other building materials (Glass etc), and would be storage for pretty much everything. In the early/mid-game I would have full production chains on an island, but late game I would have islands simply producing their raw mats and shipping them here, to be shipped to a pure production island to finish off, before being shipped back and then shipped where they were needed.

I'm not yet sure how this will work in 2070, although I actually really like how there are now buildings that are not required by populace, but require populace themselves. I will probably strive to have an end-game of two populated islands, but I don't know what they will contain. I've chosen Tycoons so definitely one Tycoon island but I don't know if the other will be purely Techs, or Techs and Ecos or even if I could get away with a seperate island for Ecos.

As oxygene said above, trying to balance consumables across several islands is very, very difficult when it's with one faction. It's not hard when the other island is a different faction as they have different needs.

Anyone know if you can see the number of available civilization upgrades available? I mean like in 1404 when you could click the marketplace and mouse-over peasants and it would say x/32 citizenships available.
