Anonymous caller reject should be standard

I'm all for blocking of withheld numbers, but some do spoof their caller ID. Would the mechanism involved in blocking withheld numbers be able to recognise spoofed IDs and block those too?

People don't answer anonymous calls? Can I ask why? I've had a few very important conversations with blocked numbers...in fact at work our number is blocked, don't want people ringing back on the wrong number. People are strange

As above. Our work uses anon numbers, a lot of civil service (stuff that serves the public) use anon numbers. It would be to your detriment.

Because witheld numbers are primarily used by telesales, crank callers and more nefarious individuals. Relatively few legitimate callers withold their number as there is no reason to. Businesses and other entities who want customers to call back the "proper number" can route their calls through that number at no cost.

My 93 year old grandad gets the same calls from people who want to give him faster internet :D

Its quite funny but they should get the message that he doesn't even own a pc.

I must be incredibly lucky, in all the time i've been using phones, I can think of only a handful of times where i've answered a withheld number and it wasn't a legitimate call :p

I don't answer witheld numbers, if it's important they'll leave a message.

This.

I like to know if the call is worth answering before actually answering it. If it is important they will leave a message and I can call term back at my leisure.

Why even dial out and withhold your number? If you don't want people to call an incorrect number then why not redirect through the correct one or just leave a message on the incorrect one telling people to call the other number?

I don't tend to answer blocked numbers either, as above, if its important they can leave a message.

I've also not had a phone plugged into my landline for about 4 years, there's just no need. All the people I talk to call the mobile, so if the house phone were to ring, 99.9% chance it's a spam call.
I have a house phone somewhere, incase of emergency but I don't even know if it still works.

I don't see nuisance callers as much of an issue really, they call, I say hello, they tell me who they are, I hang up, it probably takes less than 5 seconds and happens so rarely I really don't give a ****.

We get several of these a day, despite being TPS registered. In my humble opinion, telemarketing, surveys and so forth should be outright banned. We get bombarded with advertising more than enough everywhere else day to day, your home at least should be the one place you can shut out all that crap should you choose to do so.

I just cancelled my landline with Virgin Media. it didn't cost me much, but the only people who called it were telemarketers (two to three times per day). Anyone who actually knows me calls my mobile.

Telemarketers are Satan in disguise :p

we got so fed up of ppi calls we begged BT to change our number (no idea how they got it in the first place)
TPS makes no difference these days. ALso phones that block numbers or withheld calls are no help as the number changes each time.

Phone calls from the police come from a withheld number, and sometimes leaving a message is not possible. Refusing to answer all calls seems a bit silly, if you hate it that much, just hang up when you know who it is.

I'm the same, have a landline just for the internet (no cable here) and don't know my phone number. I'll probably get 4G when someone is doing a 4G home service with a router, and then ditch the landline.

THIS

We have a land line. Its only used for either the landlord to call us or virgin to call us. Or us them if we need. Otherwise its unused and we have never had any sales calls.

Our telephone provider (Jersey Telecom) offers a free service to block all anonymous calls. If someone wants to call they simply dial 1470 to release their number and hey presto.

On the flip side, I am required to have my home phone number as ex-directory due to work which does cause some problems with people refusing to answer my calls (especially my eldest son!) but I also just need to dial 1470 if I struggle to get through.
