That's what it means to me, I think it would be more clearly stated if it was his brother's wife.

As for the sister-in-law thing, doesn't that only apply to the person marrying in to your family?

So my wife would be my brother's sister-in-law, but my wife's sister wouldn't be my brother's sister-in-law, only mine.

So it could be the actually bride or the brides sister.

Nah krooton's right here, it's meant to only be your brother's wife or your wife's brother. The confessor may have got this wrong though and really be referring to the bride's sister... if you're reading this will you send in another mail to clear this up ?
