This afternoon I was involved in a car accident. I was driving along, when i lady decided to pull out of her driveway without looking and hitting my car. I just enough time to dab the brake. I was only doing about 10 or so mph. She drove into the front drivers side corner of my car
The damage to my car is broken front bumper, bent bonnet, front drivers side wing, smashed driver's side headlight and the one of the indicators is not working.
I have arranged for my car to be collected and assessed on monday. And a replacement courtesy car to be delivered either on saturday or monday depending on the weather conditions. The replacement car will be provided via Albany car hire through my insurer (admiral).

Drawing of accident. My car is the blue one

My Car is 2001 Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia Manual with 64K miles on it. Do you think the car will be written off? Am i likely to get a replacement car that is to the same spec/level as my car or will i get a small underpowered one?
Thanks in advance guys :)

If you had been doing 5 mph instead, the accident wouldn't have happened, should make the road a 5mph speed limit.

it would not have made any difference, as she pulled out without looking. At any speed other then stationary it would have made no difference :D

Why through your insurance?

it getting written off CAT D is a possibility. There's a lot of spraying that needs doing, which costs.

You should get something similarly sized, so a golf/focus/astra. They tend to give you something the same size, my mum's golf was involved in a similar incident a few days ago, and now she has a Seat Altea XL as a courtesy car. I say her car was involved, it was parked when a freelander decided to re-model it by reversing straight into it.

whys that? I had to give my insurance details to the lady. The police attended was they were passing by. I can cancel the claim through my insurer within 14 days and use a 3rd party like Helphire.

so you guys would advice that i use helphire and cancel the claim through my insurer? I have fully comp insurance and legal protection.

And you use a Claims Management Company to do the legwork and claim the costs off the 3rd party's insurer.

Or not, you just contact their insurers yourself and they sort it.

Actually on second thoughts, as it may be written off, I would, as they will help you get what your car is worth rather than a pitiful settlement iirc.

My mum just rang up her insurers to inform them, and rang up the other party's insurers and they booked her car in and arranged a courtesy car.

just for information, why is it bad to use your own insurer to deal with it? Is that not their job, why you have insurance?

If the person wants to give this...

What?

You have insurance so that they pay out if you cause an accident.

Insurance companies want to keep costs down, so if you are the injured party and say to them "give me a courtesy car while you sort out fixing mine" then they'll be very happy, as it keeps their costs, and, therefore, our premiums, down.

You could also organise your own courtesy car and repairs and then bill the other company for it, which is the most hassle for you. You could also contact Helphire or other such company, but all they do is what their insurers would do, only they charge a nice big fee for it, increasing costs.

if your insurance are doing a job like Helphire would (i.e. arranging), only for no fee then fine, but you certainly don't want to be claiming off your own insurance for a non-fault accident.
