Another eBay issue thread

The contract with Royal Mail is with the person who sent it, he has to make the claim, they won't deal with you as they have no contract with you.

only the seller can put a claim in, you cannot

Royal Mail says otherwise...

Was there any actual physical damage to the monitor? Just looks to me like a bad monitor that displays the blue line right at the edge of the screen.

I've never heard of 'DGM' as a monitor maker before so I'm guessing they aren't the best quality?

What cable are you using to connect to the monitor?

Thats my understanding also.

Take your pick :) Tried all sorts of combinations to ensure that its nothing silly as that, but the problem replicates itself regardless of cable type.

I am tempted to just say give me some money back and keep the monitor.

What do you all think? And if I do this, how much should I ask for (it cost me £89)

Never been in this situation, but i'd say go through the ebay/PayPal dispute system.

If I was in your position, i'd think i'm being taken for a ride :(

See I was thinking this, but then considering the time it will take to get an answer and also postage costs which I dont think I will get back....

Not sure... need to think about this...

Does the claims process usually guarantee refund?

Only when you send it back.

Could the seller play awkward here? E.g. lets say the same thing happens to him that happened to me. E.g. say RM still didnt handle the item correctly when I send it and the monitor developed another fault which I didnt report ...

Man it could be a endless circle of claim and counterclaim potentially

All the risks of buying on eBay.

The line doesn't seem to be on the whole height of the screen. If he didn't use it like he mentioned then he wouldn't have known it was there.

Ebay almost always rules in favour of the buyer no matter what the seller says, which kinda sucks when there's so many unreasonable buyers out there. Whatever happens you'll almost certainly be getting your money back.

Personally I'd want a full refund as £89 for a 2nd hand 24" monitor seems quite expensive to me?

If you don't mind 22" and 1080p then new monitors are around the same price?

Indeed.

To be honest, I would be really surprised if he didnt notice it, its the first thing I noticed and to be honest, you will DEFINITELY notice it on boot up against a black background.

Good to know that at least. Will sleep on it and decide tomorrow.

Thanks for your input all.
