Just a little rant really, don't think there is anything I can do now. I recently upgraded an Android tablet and sold the old one on eBay last week. The buyer said he had problems with it crashing and then the headphone socket was loose (which I had never used so believed him) so I said to send it back for a full refund. He offered to pay return postage which I thought was pretty nice of him, it came back and the socket was a bit loose (in fact the whole thing seemed to rattle) so I refunded him.

So anyway, a couple of days later I got to have a closer look and I notice that the security seals are damaged, and also a tab that opens the tablet. The I check the serial number and it's a totally different one to the one on the box. :mad: :mad: I guess even if i hadn't have refunded him then eBay would have sided with him if it was his word against mine. If I call him out now then all I'll get is bad feedback.

There really are some scumbags out there but before the "this is why I don't use eBay", I've certainly not had any bad experiences like this before and I have 500 feedback.

Cool story bro etc. but nothing I can do is there.
 
This is why I am loathe to use Ebay for selling electronics now. I just stick to selling clothes and DVD's and stuff. You know you should have taken pictures of the serial numbers. I would even go as far as to state in the sale all serial numbers have been photographed to try and deter these thieves.
 
Yup, lesson learnt the hard way. The good thing is that it will be repairable so I won't lose out too much.
 
**** feedback neg him - you can contest it if he gives you any bad feedback. I believe you can contact paypal regarding fraud and the buyer will get tagged.

Ebay and PP get a bad rap, unfortunately for the millions of transactions that occur on that site you will always get the odd duff. Best thing to do is secure yourself against as much fraud as poss, photograph everything, even video it working before hand etc etc.

did he raise a PP dispute? has it been closed? if not persue it there...
 
I took the risk to sell my HP touchpad on it a few months ago and someone bought it straight away and was extremely happy with it.

i did take loads of photos/serials numbers to cover myself.

I guess it is luck of the draw and because of all the horror stories i don't sell on it very often.

I buy quite a bit of ebay but usually from ebay stores/power sellers.
 
I dont know if it actually helps in the future.

When ever i sell anything on ebay that has a serial number i always include that in the paypal communications and then i always attach a picture showing the serial number and also ensure it is on all of the paypal docs.

Sorry youve been done like this, why cant everyone be trustworthy......its not hard is it!
 
This is why I take a picture before hand of every electronic item I sell. Just for serials and such. Once you learn the hard way you never forget.

You cannot neg a buyer. Been like that for 5 years or so.
Has already refunded. Im afraid that all you can do is contact the police, ebay and paypal will do nothing anyway.
 
You should always make a note of serial numbers before selling an item, that way if they come at you claiming it to be faulty you can make it known that you will only act once you have verified it is the exact item you sold.
 
sold a netbook last year on ebay did a video showing skynews on tv with date then powering up the netbook and showing it worked along with any codes on it just incase some one tried to scam
 
I don't understand how you can now get negative feedback after giving a full refund. I don't use eBay a lot.
I'd giving him negative feedback explaining what he has done but rat.

Couldn't be further/more of a pain to get to really, Northern Ireland! I'm in the south of England.
 
Em3bbs: You should security mark your items in several places & state clearly in your listing that it's marked & serial numbers are recorded.

If you sell on Ebay, you need to check returns the same day you receive them back.
I always photograph the serial numbers, etc, & I've used Ebay for nearly 10 years & never had any issues.

Shame your so far away from the scumbag.:mad:

i love ebay buy sell its grate ,iv got 100% but to the point dont let him get away with it because he will do it a gen and a gen and if someone leaves u bad feedback ebay can remove it (if your in the right) its there to b used if u dont he will doit to the next man (phone ebay) i look at peoples feedback all the time and if someone has bad feedback u can tell the good man from the bad .u dont leave feedback .i cannot

I only ever buy from power sellers with 100's of positive feedback.

People will do anything to make a quick penny.

There was a case a few months ago about a guy trying to sell his kid on ebay, also women selling their wombs, and people trying to sell organs, it's crazy

One success story I heard about was a group of uni students put themselves on ebay, promising the winner bidder a extreme college party as long as the bidder supplied the booze... and someone actually bid and won it lol

Success story number 2 - A struggling jobless guy put his CV on eBay and pretty much made the auction an advert for himself he put in the details that this would cost the winning bidder £20,000 a year and in return he would work the the winner, a manager of a big company bid on him and won lol
