Another hit-n-run shocker

If it was near a traffic light or city centre it may well have been caught on CCTV, probs worth reporting it to the police even if nothing happens of it.

That would be my thought as well.

Glad to heer Pheebs is ok though, when she gets home pamper her a bit :)

With the law as it is, its in the best interest of the driver not to stop after an accident.

Sure, in the same way that it's in a murderers best interests to leave the scene of the crime.

What car was it? Any info as there are a lot of boy racers round my area of soton that drive like utter tools. One guy on my street drives a convertible 306 and almost knocked over a girl on a zebra crossing in Bedford place over taking a bus... I mean WTF was he thinking

Glad pheebs is ok :)

Thats not what he meant

50 years ago it's more likely someone would apologise than shout expletives and drive off. The pace of life was different, everyone is constantly on edge these days.
Because we have cars to an extent - but 50 years ago things like this would still have happened, they weren't more polite, people did get killed, that's life.

Whatever fox.. not a helpful post tbh. If we want to be pedantics - 50 years ago bleeping pelican crossings werent around, and cars were not so common place - okay dokay? Not in the mood for that kind of comment.
Yours was hardly a helpful comments saying "what is this world coming to?". It hasn't gotten worse, bad things happened 50 years ago.

If you're not in the mood for retaliation to comments like that, don't post it on an internet discussion forum.

Sorry to hear that - glad she's ok though. :)

Some people just refuse to take responsibility for their actions anymore. People always feel that someone else is answerable to their problems - which frankly is awful. I hope that guy calms down and starts being more careful with his driving before he really injures or kills someone.

The world is flippin' worse.

It's worse than 25 years ago when I was a kid, let alone 50 years ago.

Let's not pretend eh?

Sorry to hear that dude, but glad she's OK :). I would say it was definitely worth reporting to the Police though as this guy clearly does not feel he has done anything wrong. He should be made to admit that he has.

I was crossing at traffic lights the other day, the lights were red and had the green man, so started to cross. Then at this point a driver pulled up as if he was going to pass, he then stopped and gave me a hand gesture that suggested 'OK you can cross'. I stopped, looked at him then pointed out the fact that the traffic lights were at red, so of course I was going to cross! He looked a little embarrassed to say the least.

Comments like "what is the world coming to"? Its a figure of speech. I've read it in a number of threads today regarding pregnant teenagers etc etc. I fail to see why a condescending tone should be put on my use of the phase any more than anyone else. I am in no way racist, prejudiced or anything, but 50 years ago community spirit was much greater than today. A 40 year old "gentleman" from foreign pastures I'm damn sure would have been more benevolent than telling a 21 year old female victim to "**** off". I grew up in sleepy old Cornwall and never heard of such things.

Thanks for all the other comments - I'm sure pheebs appreciates it - she’s on the phone reporting the incident at the moment incase he has been involved in anything.

It's just a trend that everyone seems to be using these days and it's really quite incorrect - figure of speech or not the first thing ANYONE says when something bad happens is 'WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO' or 'THIS COUNTRY IS GOING TO THE DOGS' or 'THIS COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN HILL'.

People do nothing but whinge, bitch and moan about the present and convince themselves the everything is oh-so-terrible when actually it couldn't be further from the truth and at the moment we are, generally, better off and living in a better place than at any point in the past.

THATS why I made my comment, and I stand by it.

30 years ago, the IRA were blowing pretty much everything up - hardly better then, was it?

60 years ago, we had just finished a terrible war in this very country - hardly better then, was it?

120 years ago, most of the UK lived in poverty - hardly better then, was it it?

240 years ago, it was acceptable for you to be executed for disagreeing with the king, hardly better then, was it?

480 years.. etc etc.

Wake up and realise how lucky we all are.

Yes, there are muppets around, there always have been and there always will be.

To be fair, that's not something you tend to think of when a loved one's just been hit by a car that drove off ;)
There's a time and a place for it. When someone's very emotional because of such an event, that isn't it.

What's this forum coming to tbh?

Look I'm not having an argument about semantics, I was shocked to have one line pulled up and quoted in a detremental manner after said event.
I shall rephase the comment
"What a sorry state of affairs the world is in." There -no implication of reference to years gone by. My point stands - its disgusting.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all your kind comments about my welfare! I'm absolutely dandy now - was pretty peeved off at the time (I didn't realise how colourful my language can be until today!) and a little shakey, but nothing other than a possible up and coming bruise to show!

Reported it now, although there's not a lot they're able to do. I actually went to report it at the front desk of my station but the SEO stated he didn't think it was worth it so I ended up calling FEC! How mad! What's the world coming to?! :p :p :p Hehehehehe!

I have to admit, massive wow to how some people have reacted to the thread! Interesting response! Still, we're all entitled to our own opinions, however crazy they might be! :)

Anyway, I've realised not to trust Mr Green Walking Man alone when at the traffic lights and would advise you all out there to check out what's coming your way too before taking a step into the road!

Once again, massively big thanks to your kind comments!

Don't worry Pheebs, some people have a funny concept of the real world or making comments in the right situations - and generally are about as helpful in threads as a bucket with a hole in it.

Glad you're ok. Hope you did some damage to his car ;) As I said, some people haven't got the guts to own up to their mistakes or take responsibility for their actions. Just glad it wasn't worse.

Well said. And a wonder how some people make underbosses/dons with unhelpful and blatantly provocative remarks in threads! Some people like causing trouble.
