Sorry guys, its the plastic kit type !

Finished this fella a couple of weeks ago, its the new Hasegawa Avro Lancaster BIII in 1/72 scale. Took me a little over 2 months. Markings are for a 100 Sqn Waltham Lanc that was lost in the Nuremberg raid of 2nd Jan 1945.

I used to love these as a kid. Never finished many but we used to have some real collectable's up the loft. Sold them all on eBay. Except the REALLY valuable ones.

Made a few hundred quid on those old things :)

Edit: Nice model ;)

Excellent work there mate! I wish I had the patience to make these things, i did a few when I was a bit younger but didnt really have the time for it. This one looks excellent, the paint work on it is fantastic.

Very impressive.
When ever I construct these plastic models I find that some bits do not fit together properly. Also, my painting skills are not great.
Did you use a spray rather than a brush?

cheers peeps :D

Nah - it can't fly, well not in the traditional sense anyway..

Drunken - unfortunately its never just out-of-the-box these days, I superdetailed the interior, including scratchbuilt navigators table, radio sets, radar display, as well as all of the turret interiors and cabling. (I needn't have bothered in many places in hindsight, as it just can't be seen anymore) I also added flaps made from etched metal parts.

about 95% airbrushed.

Thanks again

John

Excellent work. :) You should consider using black or white card for the background, it would make it easier to photoshop into real photographs.

You're a bit good at those! I'd love to be better a kit building, about as far as I go is the Gundam Wing kits, but I've not got the patience or talent to do the detailing I'd like to them.

Stunning, just Stunning, you have a real good talent for these things, ever thought about making some and selling them in Display Cases??? could be a good little earner if you find the market for them, as that quality is 100% awsome.

Fantastic, a fellow model builder, same as me. I also build scale models, and I too always feel proud of each one once completed. It gives immense satisfaction to see something you have built from a box of plastic parts turn into a miniature of the real thing.

I build mostly 1/24 scale model cars, but I’ve got some warships to build yet. I’ll have to try and get some of my models posted so you can have a look at my work, as I’ve just enjoyed viewing yours.

What type of airbrush are you using? I always prefer a single action, as I’m mostly painting larger surface areas, such as car bodies etc. But for the smaller details I find a duel action is the mutts, but you have to be careful as they require a little more skill.

I also prefer Tamiya kits, but recently they have dropped the ball a little. I’ve got over 300+ tamiya kits, all collected over the years, but I’ve got a massive display in my house of completed models. Many detailed as same as you using PE parts, and some with metal turned components.

Thanks for sharing. Nice to see someone else showing their creative side. Stunning work, I’d like to see more.

Wish I could show you some of mine, but my picturehosting as gone offline, so I cant just yet. Shame…

Yeah, but it's so hard to let go of them once built. Last year I built 10 scale models, all pro builds. Contest winners some of them, but I'd never let them go. but I have built models in the past for those who are willing to pay the £500 + for them. He has real talent.

iv-tecman - I'd love to see some of your work, I use a double action Iwata copy I bought from a well known auction site for a very reasonable price, I use Lifecolour Acrylic paints which are water soluble and odourless, so the missus doesn't complain quite as much these days!

Tamiya are very much the kings of model kits, and you get what you pays for, Hasegawa are very much along side Tamiya for aircraft kits, but like all manufacturers there is only so much detail an injection moulded kit can manage, so aftermarket bits and scratchbuilding is the norm for pretty much any project I attempt.

I must admit I have considered doing commission builds in the past, but its hard to put a price on something that sometimes takes up to 6 months of work.

I have a couple more builds here

If he was going to hang them, dont you think he would have built them with the under carriage up, all flaps neautral?? most his planes are parked on the ground, so im guessing he has a lot of shelves to put them on.

what do you do when you've built them? do you hang them from the ceiling with cotton thread?

Hi Phantom, nah, they just go on a nice safe shelf out of the way of cats and fiancees with dusters :D
