another Q6600 Overclocking question

i currently have:

Q6600(GO edition)
4x1Gb OCZ 1066 Reaper
Abit IP35 Pro XE
8800GT 512Mb
1Tb Samsung spinpoint
Hiper 880W Type M
Antec 900
AC FP7

over the past few weeks i have been desperately trying to get my Q6600 past the 3.0Ghz point on air however i have tried 8x400=3.2 and 9x366=3.3Ghz both with the CPU and CPU VTT voltage up to 1.5v, are there any settings which i should have upped instead as 1.5V seems a wee too extreme as idle temps are scary @50oC or so:(

and possibly post up some BIOS settings please

50deg is not too bad as long as it doesnt rise much under load

is it stable @ 3ghz i guess it is from your sig

have you tried 344x9? that would be 3.1ghz

also when you are overclocking are you doing it with all 4 dimms in as this might be your problem try with 1or2 and once its stable ups the nb volts slightly and hopefully it will be stable with 4dimms

however i am not familiar with your mobo

Don't increase VTT past 1.4v. 1.5v VTT will kill you cpu eventually. (well, that's what I'm told).

What is your NB voltage?

I have problems overclocking my rig with 4 modules of RAM filling all slots as well. It usually means you need to increase the Northbridge/memory controller voltage a bit more than you would with only 2 sticks installed.

1.5 VTT is fine on a Q6600, on 4 sticks of RAM you might need to increase your NB voltage a little.. 1.5v is fine for a Q6600 as long as your load temps aren't over 75c

so far i can only stablise 7x 450 3.15ghz vcore 1.5075, vtt 1.27, nb 1.44 i took these off my frends setup who is running it at 3.6ghz with the 8x 450 any ideas what i should up next to increase stability???

You don't really wanna run 1.5vtt - generally its not a problem but the only 65nm core 2 CPUs I know of that people have managed to kill (no mean feat) have been from VTT over 1.4v.

Whats teh VID on that CPU? most recent Q6600 will not go past 3.15gig, if its 1.300 or higher thats probably as far as its going :(

My settings are:

vcore 1.635v (bios) 1.59v Idle (cpuz) 1.53v Prime95 (cpuz)
DDR2 2.1v
Vtt 1.57v
MCH 1.64v
ICH 1.15v
ICHIO 1.6v
DDR2 ref 0%
GTL ref 69%
GTL ref 69%

I'm running at 3.7 GHz (stable) with those settings. My rig is watercooled though so my temps at full load are mid 50's. I did the bolt mod on my M/B as well which brought the PWM temps way down.

My chip vid is 1.325v

Not sure if that cooler you are using is up to 3.6 to be honest, as the chances are you need to give the CPU more voltage (these boards have a lot of vdroop under load), but here's my voltage settings for 3.6....

Vcore at 1.52v bios (1.42 - 1.43 under load according to uGuru)
DDR2 at 2.0v
VTT at 1.23v
MCH at 1.29v

Everything else is default, and my chip has a VID of 3.000v

What I found really helped was removing the motherboard heatpipe system and replacing the thermal garbage used with Ceramique. I also have 2x 40mm fans over the Northbridge and 1x 60mm over the PWM's.

Whilst Prime95 is running SmallFFT's, the warmest core sits at 69c according to CoreTemp and the PWM's get to slightly higher at 71c.

I can't get my Q6600 to overclock past 3.0ghz too, Ive upped the vcore and the mch but my pc restarts after a minute ot two with prime 95.

My setup

Q6600
GA-EP45-UD3P
2x 2gig OCZ Reaper HPC OCZ2RPR800C42G DDR2-800
2x 2gig OCZ Gold XTC OCZ2G8002G DDR2-800
Coolermaster Real Power 520w Modular Power Supply

These are my stable 3 ghz settings.

right guys just a quick test i did but are there any temps or voltas here i should be worried about?

i used these settings

vcore 1.5775v
cpu vtt 1.31v
mch(NB) 1.48v

this is idle

Are you on air or wc?

I wouldn't go 1.57 on air. Try use core temp for quad core as i heard more accurate.

I always use IBT to test stability as give more torture than Prime :p

I get around 65c and only to 3.4GHz with 1.45v on BIOS and i think that's enough for me for everyday use on air ;)

I can only get my Q6600 (1.3250v VID) to 3.2Ghz (400x8) stable, and thats with 1.450v. No extra amount of volts can get it any higher, so i'm disappointed, but it'll do. If you're hitting too many brick walls and you're doing everything you can, you're probably at the limit of the CPU.
