Another school shooting in the US

this is the amusing thing

though you don't often need a permit open carry will often attract law enforcement

This is heart-warming to see. It's good that people will protect their constitutional rights in this way.

And the cop is right - there won't be any crime while that guy is around. Would you carry out a crime with a guy with an MP5 standing there?

And on that day when a teacher goes postal and luckily has a gun to hand, and immediately starts venting his anger with bullets, we'll then start arming the kids?

The thing is to make it as difficult as possible. A determined loon will succeed of course, but let's put as many hurdles in the way as possible.

No. Not at the expense of personal freedom. The rules should not be changed just because a few idiots cause trouble.

In Israel it is common for teachers to carry weapons btw.

How long does it take to draft and pass a ban? Then how exactly do you ban 300+ million guns? The gun owners haven't just bought enough for themselves, they've bought enough for their kids and grand kids. You'd still have millions buried in the ground, hidden in walls and the like.

Brownells, the world's largest supplier of firearms, has reportedly sold three-and-a-half years worth of magazines in just seventy-two hours.

Or you do nothing and nothing changes.

Many will hand weapons in, in an amnesty. Obviously many wont. But cut out the supply and keep confiscating weapons and the number of weapons slowly declines as they are taken off the street,

This is nothing new.

After columbine they blamed video games, they blamed R&B music, they blamed Marilyn Manson, they blamed violet movies, heck they are even questioning Quentin Tarrantino at the moment as he does he press stuff for Django Unchained claiming violent movies like his are to blame.

Don't worry, he mentioned most of that too :p . I just didn't think the man complaining about misconceptions and lies spouted by the media and then blame something millions of right minded people do and are in no way more inclined to go on a shooting rampage.

Anyone watching the nra speech? If so, please god tell me I am not the only one to find this guy and his ideas terrifying!

Armed police in every school, yo. How long do you reckon it'll take to kill an entire classroom of kids with a semi-automatic rifle? Not long. It's not like the shooter is going to be oblivious to the armed guards and NOT kill them first. Not to mention the cost of their scheme.

It highlights the problem when people consider their rights more important than others. I for example would like to drive at 100mph along all roads. But I lose this right as society says for the better good of all, I cannot.

But what if, for example, you enjoyed driving at 100mph on private land, safely as so many other people do, but then someone turned around and said they were going to ban it because a few idiots did it in the wrong place and killed a bunch of people?

I'm not looking to get into a massive debate or argument, just interested in what you'd think.

NRA press conference just called for the banning of violent video games and movies LOL... love it. "Fantasy violence is no better than pornography", I agree with them.

This of course is nonsense!

As you drive home tonight, consider why you can't express your personal freedom to drive at 100mph where you see fit. Because, there is a law for the greater good of society at the expense of your personal freedom to try and save lives.

As regards changing personal freedoms because of a few idiots, it just so happens the idiots in question are being given the perfect tool (guns) to kill innocent people very efficiently.

I don't know what the answer is in the US, but throwing more guns at it surely can't be the answer!

The killer could have killed probably almost as many of the kids with a machete/large knife.

Clearly we should ban all knives.

Equally he could have used a scythe or large club with nails in it. Therefore we must ban farm tools and large bits of wood/nails.

The repeated killing of children sounds good to you? Er...guys, I think we've found the next nutcase that's going to do it

That wasn't what I said.

Anyway, I wasn't aware there had been 'repeated' killing of children? Since when is one incident 'repeated'?

If I lived in America I would stock up on as many guns as I could lay my hands on and enough ammo to last 100yrs.

Luckily, it looks like the majority of Americans think like I do - given the sales stats for weapons and ammo in the last few days.

You're logic of course is flawed.

Ask yourself why the individuals carrying out these mass killings primarily use guns? Is it because they're the best tool for the job?

Frankly you're starting to sound a little silly IMHO.

One of the comments on that page sort of says it all:-

So you would be fine with a law limiting the maximum speed of all vehicles to 70mph?

Even better: let's put RFID chips in cars that limit the maximum speed to whatever road sign they have last passed. That would save THOUSANDS of people's lives.
