ANTEC *Mini* P180 Thread

What does everyone think to using this as a case for a server? I've basically got a machine running ubuntu x64 with 6 hard drives (one small drive and 5 x 750gig samsung's in RAID 5... bit OTT i know but i hopefully won't run out of space in a hurry!!!!). I've currently got it all in a silverstone KL01, but it's a bit too big really and i'm thinking about swapping it for this as it seems like it can fit a fair few hard drives.

I've currently got a celeron dual core cpu, 1 gig ram, mini-atx mobo, 450w corsair PSU, onboard gfx. I was thinking of turning off the 200mm fan, just running 2 x 120mm's and then sticking a ninja on the CPU to have a fairly quiet server.

Also, will this fit into the bottom 5 1/4" bay?

What speed do you have the fans set to?

Well, having seen Vas' build I went for the mini-P180.

I'm waiting on some additional goodies including a new PSU and a HR05 SLi cooler for the northbridge. Here's a pic of the build so far. The case is a beaut!

In my opinion the styling is pretty good, in a kind of an industrial way. Funny how people are so anti antec. The a05 looks great but is fatally flawed due to the poor airflow.

the only poor airflow is in the upper sections of the case, the CPU runs a bit cooler then usual full ATX cases because of the backwards cooling with a fan intake getting air directly to the CPU cooler.

I build one of these last week, the big thing for me was the ability to run a Ninja passivley - my Q6600 idles in the high 20s thanks to the two top fans (both on the lowest setting.
My Raptor X is pretty much silent too, just need to replace my aging 7600GT now.

PieMaster - do you think my Spinpoint will be kept cool enough in the top 5.25 inch drive bay? I have it fitted in a zalman HDD cooler. I'm hoping the large fan in the roof will pull sufficient air in...

Or,

Shall I install it in the lower 5.25 inch drive bays?

Any thoughts?

Personally, i'd put it bare in the top 3.5" bays. My raptor is surrounded by 2x Seagate 200GB's and is cool to the touch, and thats with no fans directly on it.
The front to back cooling on the case is excellent, even on the front vents without a fan you can feel the air movement. I've got an extra 120mm Akasa amber in the bottom one since I didnt need the extra disk bays.

If the zalman is any longer than 14cm you'll probably find it doesnt physically fit in the top bay anyway because of the top fan - I had to get a new optical drive because of that.

If you look carefully at the pic you'll see the blueness that is the zalman hdd cooler nestling in the top.

What optical drive did you use mate? I have a pioneer and it's a pretty long beast.

Sony/NEC Optiarc AD-719S SATA, it happened to be the cheapest at the time and i've never had any problems with NEC drives.

Here are some pics of my Mini with a Tuniq Tower neatly installed....

Note this image still has the 2nd HDD cage installed which makes it impossible to add a powerful (and long) GFX card...

With the cage removed..... 8800GTX installed....

System is based on a P5E-VM HDMI - case and cooler keeps my system in the low 60s on max load with the Q6600 clocked to 3.2Ghz. Note - I have installed a fan in the front of the case to blow clean air onto the GFX area....
4HDDs installed (one in uppermost 5.25 bay in Zalman cooler)

I'm pretty happy with the case.... which was a huge change for me.... move away from fully watercooled SLi rig to this....

i like it, but wish it was bigger like the 182.

basically i wish you could get a 182 with black interior.

looks nice, there still on things that anoys me about the case, that is when you open the door it's really ugly, it's like they haven't tried to make it looks a lil more appealing.
