Antec P180 Owners Thread

Jesus christ, I have to say I have had a nightmare today with the side panels on this case. They refused to go on and off with any ease and in the end I snapped off one of them and damaged 2 others, the plastic retention clips i mean. I now have had to try and super glue them back on.. beware of this guys.

You likely used far too much force, I do agree they are not that easy to put on but once you know the nack it's pretty straight foward. If you have trouble putting them on, stop and walk away. Do something else and come back to them, other wise you will end up getting more and more annoyed and end up breaking something. As you found out.

Whats this about the door sticking out in the middle? mine doesnt do this to my knowledge.

Mine is like it also, if you look at where the USB ports are the door doesn't seat flush in the middle when it's closed. I'm thinking about contacting Antec about that one, as it's really the only thing that annoys me.

Has anyone used rubber mounts for the fans on this case? What ones work best?

My door is worse than that I'll post some pics when i get time, and thanks for the tips speed but its the only time i have ever experienced any problems with the panels. I must have swapped them around is all i can think of cos when i switched them back it was no problem at all.

With regards to the door, I've e-mailed Antec about it and I'll post in this thread if anything positive comes out of it.

It's possible that the panels are different, but earlier in the thread I did point out an easy way to tell them apart (assuming you haven't already switched them by mistake). I might end up putting a small x using a marker on the inside of one of the panels however (likely the main panel that uses the thumbscrews and opens the area where the motherboard is). Should clear up any mix ups in the future.

My door goes from really bad to perfect. It seems to be heat related. I reckon the plastic and metal combination expands and contracts at different rates and hence the condition of the door changes. It's very noticable that when the case is in direct, warm sunlight, at this time of year, the door straightens out perfectly and then gets progressively worse again as the day goes on.

mrochester - I agree....it must be heat related. I've built systems with 5 of these cases and with the exception of the first one, all the other 5 had the bulge in the door. There is a huge thread on this on silentpcreview. I find if you leave the door locked as much as possible it helps. And after a while the door will close flush with less of a bulge. Then again I left my door unlocked the last couple of days and the bulge on it was so bad today that I couldnt lock the door without pushing the door with my hand so the lock could grip.
It doesnt bother me anymore, as the pros of this case outway the cons, and as I said I only got 1 in 5 that didnt have this problem.

I dont think the side panels are different at all. Its just that they get accustomed to being fitted on one side if that makes any sense :) I have swapped my panels around and found the first time it was a bit stiff, but after having them on and off a few times, they go on really smooth now.

Another Question before I place my order

That bottom part where u put your p/s in, what if your p/s has a 120mm fan? wont it be trying to suck in hot air and well its just being blocked ! I thought there was a gap there so it could suck up hot air and vent it.

Wouldnt this cause a weird noise if the p/s is sucking in hot air and its blocked?

I have to also agree with you there, it is heat related. At first, when I read what you posted, I wasen't so sure. But this morning it was really cold (snowed last night). I opened my windows and it cooled the room down pretty quick, I heard some strange noises coming from the case. Looked over and the door was extra bent!

Plus the door clips off in 2 seconds if you dont like it.

How do you go about doing that? I don't want to damage it.

On the left side of the case there is a hinge which the door clips into. The top and bottom of this hinge have holes and the door has 2 little prongs which line up with these holes and clip into them. If you open the door fully out and press down on the top of the door it will allow the top of the door to unclip and come away from the hinge. Takes a little pressure but is perfectly safe.

I have had my door off loads and swapped with friends to figure out what was going on. And its the same old story. In a cold room the thing is warped. As the room heats up over a few hours it actually changes shape and sits more flush. Doesnt bother me anymore. I just wonder did they sort it in the black SPCR edition.
