Any gaming pensioners here?

Worst thing about being a mature gamer is reaction times, I've been playing FPS since the days of Doom and as I've got older my skills have declined and it does get a little frustrating getting pwned by all these whippersnappers!

My mum is 63 and retired she spends almost her entire day gaming on Rift, Skyrim etc. We actually worry about her gaming addiction as she doesn't go out or meet up with people in real life!

Gaming grandad here also, aged 46, have owned every gaming system ever released at some stage of my life, some multiple times over!, currently hooked on Elder Scrolls Online on the PC with my GTX980. Like some people say, it's a hobby, some people read books, ect, ect, and some people such as me love video games.

Same boat mate noticed reaction speed start to nosedive mid 40s 50 this year:eek:

I am 44 this year

Been gaming since school BBC B, then spectrum, Amiga, then PC....

Pretty much all I do now TBF as my MS is proper rubbish...

Most early FPS, Flight Simulators, (every MSFS) Sky rim and now ED and GTA V

I dread to think how much over the years I have spent on parts, and games... My first PC cost £1100 quid...

I was thinking about this today (while I should have been working to put money in the pension pot) and realised that if I maintained an interest in gaming until retirement age it could well be blummin' fantastic - I might have all day, any day I fancied to play games (and imagine the tech!).

I imagine the time I hit retirement (I'm 27) it will all be VR head sets and treadmills so a lot of us will be too frail to play :(

Not claiming my pension for a while yet, but at 47 I sometimes feel a bit old to be a gamer... I'm reassured by the fact I'm slightly younger than Daniel Craig... and therefore if I'm younger than James Bond all is is good :D … I look younger than him too ;)

People of our age are the original video gamers, so some respect is deserved :p if none of our generation had bought games, there would be nothing to play now :)

If you count flight sim as a game then I game with several people well in to their late 80's and one or two who are in their 90's.

Raced some 70 year old's on line in some racing sim or other too. I'm well over 50 so like it when I'm not the oldest ;)

you OAPS been gaming all your life? do you believe your vision has been affected by staring at the screen?
Genuinely interested to know.

benefits for the mind would likely out-way the above though I'd imagine

Ya know what....Kids now gaming at a solid 60fps on nice smooth LCD monitors won't fair too badly in the eyesight department but when I was in my 20's, playing on CRT monitors running at 60Hz (or less), with games running at 30 fps if I was lucky......I have no doubt that I bggrd up my eyesight.....especially when BF2 came out.....nae job at the time.....ATI X800...med settings at 800*600.....20-45 fps.......10 hours per day sometime....I can vouch that my eyesight went downhill fast over this period and since then, I cannot tolerate any game running much less than a full 60fps, 95% of the time.

When I was a teenager, I had better eyesight than all my mates....now I need glasses for long distance whereas the same guys who I used to beat easily at 'Can u Read That Sign 1km in the Distance' competitions, don't wear glasses, and don't need glasses.

In my old vanilla/Tbc wow raiding guild (no 2-3 on server) our main healer was a 66 year old grandma. She was an amazing player. Her son was also in the guild. We also had a married couple in their late 40's and our leader wa 39 year old professional.

We were a pretty cosmopolitan mix with players from 25-66 from UK, Belgium, Sweden, Norway, DK, Italy, Greece, Poland, Serbia, Croatia and a few other nations. Guild leader was dutch, deputy Italian (engaged to the Greek melee dps class lead) and 4 Class leads were me, 66 year old grandma, 30 year old greek lass and a 40 year old Scotish emigrant who lived in Holland teaching japanese with his japenese wife.

Yeah, we were quite a crowd :p

My dad, not really being a pensioner, but he is a raging Elite fan, I have never seen anyone so keen! I can see him playing Elite for many 10's of years to come
