I'm thinking of purchasing the 40gb one for my laptop which only has SATA1 from what I can tell. The connectors are all standard and should fit in the slot yeah?

Secondly, I'm getting a 60gb one for the OS drive on my main pc with a P5Q series motherboard from asus, no obviously issues there yeah?

Will run windows 7 on both so TRIM should work fine? I don't want to be faffing around with firmware upgrades etc. It needs to work out of the box and thats it

Vertex 2E series is only having issues with certain Gigabyte mobos which they (Gigabyte) are trying to address at the moment with "Beta bioses".

Personally, I find 40GB for a laptop is on the small side as the formatted capacity will be around 37-35 GB range. My Windows 7 and Office 2007 install is already at 25 GB plus you need at least 20 percent free space of about 7-7.4GB to give your SSD a breathing room for wear levelling purposes so that will leave you around 4.6-5GB available space for extra apps. Is that enough space for you? Me, I travel a lot and when I do, I carry a camera with me, thus I opted for a 128GB for my lappy.

Unfortunately, firmware upgrades on SSD is inevitable as it meant to enhance the drives functionality unless you don't want to take advantage of it.

Intel SSD's or any Vertex SSD's that uses Indilinx Barefoot controller is more than enough for a lappy with Sata I speccs(Like mine). Speed difference is only noticeable on benchmark runs and not on actual usage.

Thank you for that response,

I'm looking to order soon,

I've got Windows 7 on a 30gb ssd and that leaves at least 15gb free, so I was thinking I would have similar amounts free for the laptop. Its a dell XPS M1330 btw and I don't use it often in any case, just occasionally take it home, that sort of thing. I can't afford anything larger either
