Any Labrador owners here?

especially when you watch it being put down. I remained emotionless out of respect for my old friend whilst the rest of the family were finding it all too much. Not waving my e-peen at all. Experiencing something like that is incredibly tough.
RIP- you always had a Ferrum Mos buddy.

Reading this post has been one of the hardest things ive done in recent months. Our black one died a few weeks ago and reading this made me :(

So sorry Voltar, don't know what else to say really. I know that i love him already like i do my children so i wouldn't like to think how much you must be hurting.:(

Well just treat the little fella right and you'll become inseparable. I haven't acknowledged it fully but its killing me. They are so beautiful when they're puppies. just wait until you lose at tug o war to a dog that weighs 1/3 what you do :D

You sound like you have some lovely memories, its those that gets you through this horrible time, believe me ive been there, I know what its like.

I still miss my dog who died 7 years ago, and I still cant listen to the song that was playing on the radio that morning when I woke up to find her dying in my bed without crying.
:(

i got a 8 week old cocker spaniel about a week ago, shes hard work but shes very loving and very quick to learn, she can already sit and understands leave sort of, yes they are hard work, I love spaniels cant wait until shes had all her jabs and go for walkies

Don't walk them too much as puppies, let their bones develop a bit before you take them for long walks :)

I grew up with a golden Labrador. He was about 6/7 when we got him. He had about 3/4 homes but was deemed vicious towards kids and uncontrollable. He was kept a private sanctuary that specialized with labs.

I was about 7 when we got him. The people there seemed to antagonize him and he was bouncing around in a closed stable while we talked to the owners. He seemed quite boisterous and just wanted to get out. We were told he was to be put down the next day due to being a "lost cause". My dad insisted against their advice to take him for a quick walk to see what he was really like. 20 mins later my dad threw him in the boot of our Lada. (apparently my dad poked him, shoved him and grabbed his balls to test his reaction)

Since that moment he never even barked till his last day some 7/8 years later at an age of 17/18. That's a long time for a lab and he was very fit till that day although had a hard time with his joints. He never needed a lead when walking and never attacked anyone even when playfully provoked. He was loyal and very clever.

We had to put him down due to him having major strokes for a while. One morning he was just fitting , banging his head on the floor. I went to 6th form and came back and he was gone. I will never have a dog like that again, he was very conscious of the people around him and what was going on. Knew if you were ill etc. Apparently his first home was with an old man in Liverpool who grew too old to look after him, can't imagine what his other homes were like but at least we gave him the best we could.

Have not been on here for a while because Charlie is taking up so much of my time lol. I am loving having him though. I've just taken this picture of him which i think is the best one i've taken so far, i hope you like it? He was 11 weeks old yesterday.

I think I love him and ive never met him

Chewed much yet? :p

He chews everything including hands and feet! He is just being a pup tbh and we are trying to teach him bite inhibition at the moment. He is responding well to training, already he listens to "Sit", "Come", "Leave it", "Lay down", "Ah ah" and "Off" lol. However, "Stay" is proving a challenge.

Any excuse to post doggy pics...

Bit bigger there!.
:)

P.S. Lovely pup btw, my neighbour has two labs.

I'm abit late to the thread but I own a black lab called Chad he is 11, and mental. He was quite a handful when we first got him as a puppy he was also our first dog so took us at quite a surprise. He destroyed a sofa, munched up half my dads CD collection, and soaked lots of carpets.

About a month after we got him on a summers day he came running through the house from the garden in a right panic, ran straight upstairs to where mum and dad were and collasped to the floor making horrible noises like rolling around gasping for breathe.. My dad thought he was choking to death and was tryin to clear his throat.. proper bad experience.. it all then stopped and he got up.. we thought he had a lucky escape and had something trapped in his throat. However a few months down the line it happened again and he was diagnosed with having epilepsy. Every so often he has a fit but the medication does help control them.

Labs are so well natured the way Chad is with other dogs its respect all the way and never charges in. Great with people and children wouldn't hurt a fly.. very greedy though.. labs - food is their life :D

Couple of photos!

Looks like an awesome dog. Beautiful coat. Poor fella, with the epilepsy.

I really want a lab, they're such cool dogs. One day...

Awww, you made me cry. We had a lab called Charlie and he was the best friend anyone could wish for. When our daughter was born, we had to buy a baby gate after a week, because Charlie would lay across the doorway into her room and I would fall over him as I stumbled around half asleep to pick her up in the night. We used the gate to stop him coming all the way up the stairs, but if she awoke, so would he. Consequently anyone would know what sort of a night we had had just by looking at his eyes. If they were red and bloodshot, you knew the baby had been awake loads. As she started to crawl, he would lay across the room she was in to stop her getting out and when she started to walk, he would lay up against the sofa so that she could use him as a step to get up or as a cushion in case she fell off.

We lost him when he was 13 and we all still miss him. Anyone who has, or has lost, a lab and has read Marley and Me would understand.
