Any Lefties?

My right handed handwriting is terrible, I blame the invention of the keyboard and the end of the pen and paper in my life :p

I have to buy two birthday cards at a time as I know the first one will end up in the bin most times.

I used to be left handed when I was a child and my parents didn't like this so they tied up my left hand until I could use my right hand.

Do you think this is cruel and would you do this to your child?

Erm dude wither your left/right handed is determined by genetics not which you use most as a child or anything. If you start doing stuff with your left hand more and practice then your ability with it will surpass your ability with your right hand.

Me and President Obama are left handed. But I play the guitar right handed, weird!

Yes, it's awkward, but one adapts. ;)

"Dominant hand" guitars are a load of nonsense. You use both your hands with them so there's absolutely no need for anything but a standard guitar.

I think it's probably what you're used to seeing - I'm right-handed but I play the drums left-handed (on a right-handed set up to confuse things further - open-handed). Probably because the archetypal kit layout is right-handed, but I picked up the drums by watching my left-handed stepbrother play them!

How did "go watch some gay films" translate to a 6 months gay films marathon?

More importantly, what was the result of this investigation? You must have watched over 700 gay films by then, if each were 2 hours long, twice a night for 6 months.

More importantly, is he still "watching the videos" :p or has he beaten the gay

I'm very strongly left sided and use my left hand for just about everything. Only real exception is mice, although I always used them left handed and still prefer to do so, I jump on so many different computers at work now that I've just learnt to use the mouse on the right hand side rather than move it.

I did manage to slightly corrupt my younger brother too, he's right handed but plays pool left handed as he learnt from me :p

My only real gripes with lefthandness are the lack of decent lefthanded mice and Barclays cash machines. Seriously, next time you're using one try and take your card out with your left hand the design of the card slot makes it really awkward.

I'm the same. I was never exactly forced to use my right hand for the mouse, but as it was always on the right side when learning use a PC, I got into the habit of using that hand. Now it feels totally alien to even try to use my left hand for holding the mouse.

Sounds like child abuse to me. If I heard about that happening to a child today I'd be on the phone to Social Services.

Both myself and my wife are left handed and my 2 year old daughter is right handed. I'll make an effort to teach her in the right handed way or whatever she finds most comfortable.

Raymond, I am disappointed :)
And the rest of you.

OP's parents are from the 19th century?

I am left handed...for writing.

Left hand is more dexterous/precise.
Right hand is stronger.

Example: in badminton/squash I will serve left handed then switch to my right hand for smashes and other "power" shots. My gf hates playing tennis against me because I have no backhand. Instead I have two forehands by switching racket hand during play.

Also WHY DO SCISSORS NOT WORK FOR ME?!?!? I don't get it how are scissors dexterous to the point where they wont cut when used left handed? I do not understand.

the direction of torque you apply with your left hand cause the blades to separate. this means the paper slips between them!

That must get confusing! I am left handed and play badminton completely with my left hand. Do you switch hands when trying to do a 'backhand' shot in badminton too?

I am a leftie. Luckily by the time I went to school in 1971 you were allowed to be a leftie lol. My mum said years ago when you started school if you used your left hand the teacher would whack it with a ruler and make you use the right hand. I only use my left hand for writing and drawing though. For everything else I am right handed.

I did read once that on average left handed people die 5 years earlier than right handed people.

Lefty here. My dad* and grandad were too.

*My dad had it beaten out of him at school. He got the cane or the belt if he got caught using his left hand to write with. He's remained a righty since.
