^ this is what i get from it^^

You are approximately 973 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

It seems im in catchment of 2 exchanged, and neither seems as major as a km away tbh.. just in case your wondering, they are: CMEARD and CMCGF

Just got my O2 box and activation due on Monday. I'm a bit eager to get the routes and network setup this weekend and just in case it activates earlier.
There are 2 warnings in the box though. 1.Wait until your confirmation text before setting up.
2.Use the setup CD before plugging in the box.
I know neither of these are necessary but why do they say it and what info do i need without using the CD install. Thanks

If the CD's the same as the Be one, just use it. All it does is takes the settings you should have got with the router (IP, DNS, gateway etc) and feeds them to the router in a nice wizard, along with whatever else Be/O2 push by default.

As for not hooking it up before it's ready, you won't break anything. It's probably just to cover them in case something happens pre-activation.

The only reason we ask you not to hook it up before your text is we do a loop check when you go live, and if you have a router on the end it can screw with the calculation is all.

Ok cheers. Not really sure what a route check is but if it's not an issue i'll pop the CD in and get it setup today.
So far i'm hugely impressed with how O2 are doing. Order tuesday night, box delivered thursday (well, would have if one of us was in) activation due by monday! All with helpful texts along the way. Top marks so far, and being 500m from the exchange it will hopefully be speedy too

just orderd it all for my bro, his flats next to the exchange in the city center so should be able to get the full 20mb no problems. Guy on the phone was friendly and should go active in 6-10 days. :)

Well my connection has gone live at so far so good, no settings changed on the router and housemate is on a chat prog at the same time

Astonishing IMO. Plus the ping is half that of Sky's. I know speed tests aren't always great but it looks good so far. Apple website gives 1.55MB/s :p

Is there any need to go easy on downloading at the beginning as they test things etc?

Si MPS,

Save me! I decided to stick with O2 as the hassle of migrating is not something I need at this moment in time. I called up to have the BRAS profile reset and the lovely first line people keep telling me "it gets reset automatically". Is there some magic way of making these people listen :( ?

Just noticed yesterday that Northern Ireland is starting to get exchanges activated. If you look on the Be* website, the first exchange to be activated was Portadown. With any luck we will be activated before the end of the month :)

I tried my luck this morning and spoke to a scottish woman, she conferenced me in with second level who are now going to have my BRAS profile reset! Thanks for the info Nymins I must look into it, I was told when I signed up they would move me over to LLU when it became available.

Hey man, just ask to speak to a manager. I'd do it for you but I am too lazy to get my OR login unlocked, i never touched the IPStream stuff.

The fella I spoke with yesterday from second level said he would be putting the request through to BT and it should be taken care of in 24 hours, fingers crossed!

Are these deals still floating around from si and zombie? id like to know before i bug them for one as im getting a bit fed up of virgin.

is there anyway to find out just how far i am from the exchange and what speed i can get? its available in my area but im unsure of speed as we dont have a bt landline yet. ive tried samknows but cant find out any information.

You seem like a helpful chap, who do I speak to if I'm after fast path on my O2 connection? The people on the phone had no problem putting me on a 3dB profile but they say fast path isn't something they offer.

Just called up to check the status of my call yesterday and the case was closed and the fella said under no circumstances were they allowed to have BRAS profiles reset and interleaving switched off despite the second level person saying he would forward it on to BT to have it taken care of, joke tbh.

*calls for some divine intervention*
