Any other 30 year old+ gamers who.......

I’ve bought expensive components only to end up playing the same two or three older titles over and over again. I’ve seen so many games that I find it difficult to get enthused by the latest releases. The graphics improve but much of the core gameplay remains the same. Hardware prices are getting so high now that I’m thinking of running my current rig into the ground and then walking away from it.

Another one here lol

1080ti and a £1000 ultrawide. I do get my money's worth out of it although my gaming time is limited these days due to family commitments. Gone are the days of old when I could just lose myself in an RPG for an entire weekend lol

My shame is that I've currently got a 1TB SSD on my desk, unopened. I spent probably over a month tracking the price on CamelCamelCamel. I decided I desperately needed it. When the price dipped to £200 I bought it.

A month later it's still not in my rig.

What the hell is wrong with me...

Obsess over their latest gaming build, learn everything they need to make the decision on which components to get to squeeze out every FPS they can get.

Then, spend 3 years playing the odd game but mainly just end up spending more time reading about games and dip their toe in now and then but to no great extent.

Clear time in their schedule to "game", only to get distracted by family/Twitch/forums/email/tech sites/Youtube.

After 3 years, start thinking... "Mmm, time for a new rig".

Rinse and repeat :D

It is like an addiction.

Come on in and share your woes :D
Have you been spying on me? This is me lol. It's more a tech hobby than a gaming one.

I can relate to all this. Maybe it's just age and realising you've seen it all before, you won't be the next greatest player now you're past your best! I think the reality is it's just the normal pattern of live, we're just experiencing it through the lens of PC hardware. It could next as easily be something else.

If you're enjoying your time and you can afford it I wouldn't worry, you're not alone you're just getting old!

Generally speaking money tends to be tighter when your younger/just starting out on your own, time isn't. Reverses as you get older.
That couple £100 quid you were over the moon to save by holding off your purchase for a couple weeks/month becomes less relevant when weighed against what little personal/leisure time you have.

At least thats how it should be.. but the state of the economy/country in general current generations probably a bit more frugal than predecessors were (only need look at property ladder compared to 2/3 decades ago to see the mess its all in)

Though general rule of thumb I'll always believe in making informed decisions and will at least make an effort on that front I fall into the "values time more" category and since I don't get many treats figure if I've been a good lad and kept my feet clean I'll go and buy that nice new shiney to replace the old one thats conked out :)

Get where your coming from I just think we tend to all approach things in our own unique ways depending on circumstance

If I spent any less time on gaming than I currently do I can see my next major purchase being a console TBH, I'd begrudge it a little at first but I've been back/forth between the 2 forever.. love the pc but even i can't justify that sort of expenditure for so little use

As you get older you realise that there are more important things in life than pc gaming and time holds more value.

Nonetheless I have just purchased a 1080ti and Acer predator 21:9 for the dark winter months.
I do still enjoy gaming, though I am very limited on titles that interest me.

Always been a COD/Bf junkie.
I have pre ordered Bf V, but I will be giving the new COD a side-step, for me they have damaged the gameplay and have gone all arcade style, not my cup of tea (that style of game simply attracts school kids that seem to constantly shout abuse at each other on every map).

Maybe that is just me getting old and grumpy though

Yep!

Spent much more time improving my rig than playing. I just had to have Titan Xp’s In SLI with M.2 SSD’s etc etc and barely play an hour a week now.

Interest moved to my car but probably because I prefer to be out and about during the better weather

I haven't upgraded my PC is a long time (it's sickeningly expensive) but now I only tend to play story driven games or open world Skyrim type games with a lot of freedom and character building elements. All FPS, shooting, racing, sports, fighting, adventure games have just dropped off my radar completely.

Nah. Still rocking an i5 since 2011 (what a beast that chip is). Upgraded my GFX a few years back for UT alpha, and that's it.

Wouldn't mind a better CPU to keep pace with the late game strategy, but that obviously requires a complete overhaul.

You guys clearly have money to burn :p

just putting together a budget gaming PC for about £250 after leaving the last one with the ex (and also one for £100 that I plan to sell thanks to a quiet shift at work and random bids on eBay) but fully expect the plans of epic gaming sessions will never happen... although my new girlfriend does love watching me play games so that's a massive win!

My biggest issue in the past was normally id spend ages getting all the mods I wanted installed, get a game looking great and by the time that happened id not want to play the game itself. my biggest issue is Dark Souls, ever since playing that series I struggle to get the same level of satisfaction out of a lot of games... so first game I'm playing on my 'new' rig is going to be Dark Souls 3 along with Monster Hunter world.

At 30 I was still messing around with Crossfire, building minign rigs, overclocking and the like.

That was me as well. Master and slave cards, Y-cable hanging out the back.

You have the funds to play, but not the time or imagination. Total opposite of when we were younger!

This was me up until a couple of months ago, 37 years old and moved into a house that needed so much work that I just sold my PC in the MM but that doesn't stop me from wanting another, I'm still thinking of what kind of setup I want either front room HTPC or a full dedicated PC again but I know I wont get chance to game on it and there isn't any point in building it any time soon as the house is months away from being finished

The new Metro though

And Fallout 76

argh
