Any reason not to upgrade to 10?

Fresh install of Win10 Home and Pro, no problems at all. Smoothest Windows upgrade I've done. (Windows 98SE was my first :P)

Windows is not Microsoft's main source of revenue, they have something like 16 different billion dollar businesses.

True

Tbh I think the "free" update was more to get any many people on the same platform but with the added benefit of cortana linking directly up with Bing search.

Seeing how much money Google paid to keep their search on iOS, having Bing fully integrated with Windows must be bringing in some extra revenue.

I've installed Windows 10 on both my machines now.

The only negative I can think of is I preferred the old way OneDrive handled placeholders. Not to much of an issue on my desktop because I have plenty of storage but I would have preferred the placeholders of old on my Surface.

Painless clean install from bootable USB to my new SSD. Install took 10 minutes. I used my Retail Windows 7 licence to activate.

The down side is the sheer number of Errors logged in Event Viewer.

The main culprit being "Event 131 Metadata staging failed.." No clue how to get rid off. Tried various suggestions on http://www.tenforums.com/ but didn't work.

Windows 10 has been a breath of fresh air for me. It works flawlessly and some of the features are absolutely brilliant. Things I missed from my days when I used Macs that have finally made it Windows. Things like:

Being able to scroll windows that are not primary focus
Having virtual desktops
Task view

just to name three. I've been using them on the Mac for about 7 years. Took Microsoft long enough to implement simple but very effective features.

Edit: Oh and Alt+Tabbing to switch between applications now uses a much improved interface rather than that ghastly 3D slider thing they had in Vista / 7 / 8. 3D effects for the hell of it are some of the most stupid things software developers do. They are just eye candy and don't actually improve the experience of using the software.

Two other things that are missing that I noticed just the other day.

No guest account - the option to enable it is still present in the Computer Management console but it doesn't work. Bit annoying as I often have friends/family who like to use the computer while there round.

No longer able to edit environment variables - admittingly i've never used this before, but I'm sure someone out there might have the need to.

Early builds of Vista aside alt+tab in 7 onwards always used the style as in 10 (unless you changed the default options) - only windows key + tab used the 3D view they originally introduced in Vista. The only difference I think in 10 is that it scales a bit better with different amounts of applications running to be a bit clearer what task is what.

Ah OK. It's been years since I used Windows on a daily basis. I only used it for gaming but I have to admit Windows 10 fixes some of the grips I've had with Windows for years and years. Plus my machine is rock solid stable with when I somehow managed to break my Windows 7 install and had loads of problems with it.

I'm not happy with the Windows 10 privacy stuff but I'm happy to overlook them simply because it makes my machine so much nicer to use on a daily basis. Oh and search seems so much better. I can actually find the files I want to find now.

My main contention with the privacy stuff in Windows 10 is hunting it all down and disabling it and always having to double check after an update that they haven't added in yet another feature that has privacy stuff to disable. Largely it operates in a manner where the information sent back can't be reverse traced to an individual in any meaningful way.
