Anyone changed there name

I spent 16 years of my life as David formally, and Davey to family. My nickname has always been Dup however. Never been a "Dave".

I then read my birth certificate to find out my name is actually Daniel David. So since I have been known as Daniel.

It caused a ton of confusion, seeing as non-family had only just become used to my 10 character surname, and didn't cost me a penny. I prefer daniel too, it suits me more I think.

So you spell it Mathew?

That's so wrong.... :o

I'm with you on this one two t's for the win :D.

Only my friends and those that choose to, call me Matt, my family all call me Matthew apart from when writing a text message or email which I find weird - why can't they be consistant :p ? No one spells our surname wright but that is mainly due to a drunk great-grandfather who spelt the family name wrong on my grandfather's birth certificate! This really frustrates me though because people try to correct this all the time and even my credit card has my name wrong on it!

To the OP, I wouldn't bother changing your name if everyone already calls you David, it's a lot of hassle and you probably don't use it that often apart for formal things.

Quite fancy changing my name to 'Dungaree Firebird' or 'Tuxedo T-30', but the novelty of having the same name as someone from family guy hasn't worn off yet.

Didn't the makers of the game Turok once offer people a free copy of the game or something if they changed their name, legally, to 'Turok' for one year?

I changed my name when I came to Uni. I hated since the of around 7 and ask my parents then if I could change it. They told me to wait till I was 18. I asked again at 13, but they still weren't having it. So 18 changed it. Found out later the ********* only chose the original cos they couldn't agree on one.

Went to a solicitor and changed it. With the deed I then updated banks, passport etc. Much happier now. Even my mom finally (after 12 years) gets the name right. Twas odd for the first few years, as you still respond to the original name, and pause when called by the new one. Now I couldn't image beginning known by anything else.

There are too many Davids in the world, everyone knows a David or a Dave. lol
Forced to agree, there do seem to be a disproportionate number of Davids around for some reason.

Personally I like having a fairly uncommon name and don't think I'd like to have a name so common that I'm always meeting people with the same name. As I've only ever met about three people with the same name as me, I've no idea what it'd be like to always be meeting people with the same name but I think I'd find it weird.

My name is "Jeffrey" lol

I spent a good few years being called "Bungle", "Zippy" etc etc at school in the 80 early 90s. :D

However I am glad i have a semi-unique (is that possible  ) name and it does have a touch of class to it.

Shorten it to Jeff and you have an everyday name that plebs can grunt out when they want you to tie their shoe laces for them.

I wouldn't change it for the world now.

My uncle has changed his name to escape debts and get out of a sticky situation.
My aunt although not officially, prefers to be called Sue, her 2nd name, as she hates her first one Carol, suprising born on the 25th dec.
A mate of mine also prefers to be called by another name, who i wont mention incase she tracks me down and kills me one day :)

I find it all a bit weird changing your name, unless its dissapear or to start a new life i see no point in doing it.

Just my opinion Davy Boy!

My mother's first name is Carol but some of her oldest friends call her by her middle name of Mary as, when she worked with them way back when, there was already another Carol in the office when she started so she used her middle name there.

A girl in our office was born on 25th Dec, must be so weird.
