Anyone else disappointed with the Bioshock demo?

I agree with you on that point.

Gaming is stale and bioshock is nothing new which mystifies the hype it got.

I'm just shocked at the praise it's getting, it's like people have never played a fps before ......

I am dissapointed too.

I thought the demo was suppossed to be great? Its good but i wouldnt say this demo was anything special. The video at the end just put me off the game entirely.

I love fps for the record.

Dude - you are really strange. Seriously; what are you looking for in a game today. Total originality today in the video games industry is ultra rare, so all you can hope for is atmospheric well executed solid game play in original environments with, you hope 'some' new ideas or a slant on delivering a tried and tested gameplay mechanic.

If you expect more then pretty all of the next big releases will disappoint.

It sounds like you get swept up in the hype machine to easily. Well I suggest that you never go to any games sites or buy and games press. Then when a triple A title is launched, you will be surprised by what is on offer, as you wouldn't have elevated it in your mind to God's lofty heights, and enjoy it more.

Well, I would prefer to call you 'an absolute easily pleased tart' than to call you weird because you like bioshock.

You have concluded that because I don't like bioshock it must mean I don't like fps, which is lame.

So, i'm now going to say you're an absolute easily pleased lame of a tart.

I've seen the gamer tv review and watched the trailers and they didn't impress me, but with all the hype it's been getting I thought I would try the demo for myself to see if it change my mind about it.

And I can categorically say I didn't impress me one iota.....

Games and enjoyment are subjective. If someone likes it, fine. If someone dislikes it, fine.

There will never be a game that everyone likes.

I was impressed,

But I thought the Unreal Engine 3 would be better.

a lot of this stuff, you saw in Unreal 2.

I didnt like the guns much, couldnt really tell if i was hitting stuff, not much oommff behind them.

Its not really the full Unreal 3. Proper Unreal 3 games will look a lot better.

Mate - have you been drinking a lot today (if old enough), because you sound like p***** troll.

Your attitude won't take you far.

Hmm, I found it a mixed bag really. It really is a well developed setting (helped no doubt by the stunning graphics) and the atmosphere it generates is really tense at times. But. I thought the way they've handled the splicers was woeful. Yes there are staged scenes which play out well, but the rest of the time where you either stumble upon a splicer or have a few just run at you seemingly out of nowhere...it actually made me want to just quit the demo at one point (when the 60 second alarm has been activated and there is a pretty steady stream of splicers jumping down from an upper level) since it seems so at odds with the rest of the game.

An atmospheric, tense and story-driven game on the one hand. A mindless shooter the likes of which we've seen many times over the years in the other. Not a good blend in my eyes.

gazza criticsing like it's the final bloody game though

I don't like too much hype when it comes to games (or anything for that matter), but I think this game deserves it imho.

The attention to detail and level of polish is amazing. It's not just the graphical quality that impressed me but the lush atmosphere, surreal ambience and aural immersion that impressed me most. Playing through it, constantly reminded me of Condemned, easily one of my all time favourite games which means I'll definitely be getting this. That said, I can see why some people won't like it as the style of gameplay won't suit everyones, nor will the artistic direction and heavy bias towards atmospheric immersion.

Also, the game seems to run incredibly good considering the sheer amount and quality of graphics it's outputting; the level of pixel shading going on is ridiculous, was suprised my X1900XT didn't choke to death, lol. After updating my graphics drivers I was able to run it between 25 to 70fps at 1680x1050/Max Details, which is perfectly playable for this sort of game.

Looking forward to the full game. ;)

I agree. Far cry- c'mon! It was good in its day--well, excellent actually--but i don't think it can compete with Bioshock.

have you played it using the 64bit content mod and hdr enabled? performs better than bioshock and looks damn good too.

bioshock textures are lacking, they look like rainbow 6 vegas textures to me. just not detailed enough.

I chose to respectfully disagree with you. As in, oh my GOD go to specsavers already, damn it.

check the screenshot thread out, there are screenshots of the games i mentioned there, and the bioshock graphics just arnet as revolutionary as people make them out to be.

You know when your in that tunnel bridge and the water
starts gushing in ?,you just know that this game has raised the bar
definitely an omfg moment for me.
I think those that are saying this isn't all that will secretly
be playing this.

its a scripted event, if it used true physics and broke in different ways then yea, but i just didn;t find it that impressive.

How do u get AA to be applied, or is it just the resolution that eliminates *** jaggies?

same here, how did you get AA to work, i got jaggies comming thats probably why i don;t think the gfx are all that since all other games i play usng AA but AA in bioshock not working for me.

one thing though, the polygon count in bioshock is quite high, higher than probably all other games ive seen. but the textures really are lacking in some places.

something does look odd about the graphics in the game, looks BIG, big textures or something.

Looks great in screenshots, nothing wrong with my gfx settings, just the game looks big, guess thats what happens with a console port

your right there, something is just not right with the graphics i just can;t put my finger on it. the environment didn;t seem to be very interactive too as in destructable stuff. would have liked to smash a hole in a window and see water flow through. think its a lack of physics or something. but there something thats missing but i can;t put my finger on it.

as for the textures, could be cuz its a console game too that they decided to stick with 1 batch of textures for cross platform use.
