Anyone else disappointed with the Bioshock demo?

I was expecting a lot but after the intro and beginning I thought 'what was special about that?'

I played with Vista at 1280*1024 16xCSAA/16xAF and I wasn't blown away by the graphics :(

Maybe I should try again tonight as I was a bit tired last night.

I enjoyed the demo but like may people, I believe I will compare it to System Shock 2, which is probably the greatest PC game I have played. I felt the demo was a little linear, which I guess is fair enough, considering it is a demo. Also for all the hype, the water didn't seem that great to me. Rather than being a pure shader effect, it seemed almost like 1 dimensional textures in some areas, for instance when the glass tunnel is broken.

I can see why some people believe HL2 and its expansion packs look better than Bioshock. HL2 uses really detailed textures, as opposed to shader effects for walls and the environment in general. I think it is a very subjective viewpoint but both games look fantastic.

I agree that that Irish accent also drove a nail through my head. I dont get why everything is saying "Oh its only a demo, the full game will be better". Hmmm, well what are demos for? If i understand they are to give a taste of what the full game actually is going to be like?

except crysis

Wrong there, i've not even followed Crysis & very much doubt ill be playing it as its DX10 , not going to upgrade for 1 game :P

Why compare to HL2? they are both different games and engines if anything we should be comparing to games built on the unreal engine.

The demo is missing loads of stuff that makes the full game so much better.

Seeing the enemy run around screaming, heading for water to put himself out. You could either fill him with lead, or wait for him to get to the water, then zap it with electricity :P"

It's all well and good having all these options at your disposal, but while they sound good on paper, none of them are actually that fun or revolutionary in practice...

I am still tempted to buy the game just to see all the different scripted sequences however (which were handled brilliantly).

You haven't used many of them though so not really too fair to say. :D

I'm looking forward to Big Daddy fights the most, gonna play it on Hard mode too and I'm not gonna abuse the vita chambers, if I die fighting a Big Daddy I'm gonna go to my last saved game.

A 10-15 min demo doesn't give me much to go on tbh, but from what I did play it seemed decent enough. Not revolutionary in what the hype is saying ( no surprises there) but gameplay does look fun. A good solid shooter.

As for the graphics, who cares?...I honestly didn't even notice if they were next gen or not. Gameplay is all I'm interested in. If I want something amazingly real to look at I'll go watch a movie or look at some 3d renders. I'm kinda sick to death of all this graphics whore mentality whining about it in every game that gets released. As long as the graphics FIT the game and don't look too out of place then they have done their job. Gameplay should be #1 priority....but you wouldn't think so these days.

I am just glad there isn't a lot of that overly bright HDR crap in the game like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. with the Float32 patch or like DiRT

I might cancel because the water was so unrealistic, i want to be able to shoot holes in the galss and have the water come in and start filling up the city so that me and all the splicers drown realistically and what was all that rubbish with the ignite plasmid? it should set the city on fire and become an out of control wildfire that is only put out by the realistic water pouring in

same thing im saying, there is no real feel of all that water applying pressure around the buildings, you should hear sounds of girders bending etc. it could have been a much better game had they really used the water realistically. even fire doesn;t spread well in bioshock compared to something like call of juarez.

shader effects look blurry, high detailed textures are always better than low rez ones.

I think he was being sarcastic.

either way the texture quality in this game is poor. maybe someone will do a texture mod like the one for oblivion. should be interesting then.

From this post
Textures are not very high resolution, but this could either be specific to the demo, or a decision made by the developers to keep the game running smoothly, as very high res textures would add to stuttering - of which Bioshock seems to have little.
So maybe the full game will have slightly better textures or perhaps a patch will give that option later on?
