Anyone else disappointed with the Bioshock demo?

well I thought it was ok.... not sure why everyone is totally raving about it being ground breaking. However I did like the mix of 'magic' and run of the mill tools for the job such as the guns and the wrench.

The mapping seems excellent as well along with the models, music, and voice acting so as far as a game goes in these terms I think its going to be truly excellent.

People who generally thought it was going to be something totally new and ingenious however are going to be the ones who are going to be most disappointed I feel. Maybe thats why this thread has been started? People feel slightly misled or have been caught up in all of the hype?

It would make sense if it was for the demo to keep the size down.

I don't think that's the case at all. Doubt they'd bother tbh, it's 1.84Gb anyway.

There's a limit to how big we need textures, those cinematic HL2 textures just look grainy and pandering to the hires kru imo. Better maybe, in places, than the stock ones though. I'm struggling to think of a complex scene in HL2 (help me out!) but HL2 does so well as they have an excellent mapping/art team and have a great look/style. Bioshock and all these bumpmap heavy games have a completely different style, a lot more chunky, more nooks and crannies, more depth to the environment.

annoyed me when I got well into it A had to leave it only to discover there's no quicksave & now I have to start again

It states on screen there is no Quick Saves in demo, only full game.

You do not need start again as you go back to the large Glass Tanks if you get killed, you obv need to pass near these to activate I think.

I played through the demo and I did enjoy it - I definitely think it's a game I'd like to run through and just explore but I can't help feeling it'll be a tad too linear (which sometimes is no bad thing).

What worries me most is the feeling of "well, that'd have been awesome if they did this >here<" and so on, which did crop up a few times as I wondered around Rapture.

Still, I have no doubt it'll be a fantastic game and I look forward to playing it through but I suspect there'll be very little replayability in it and at the end, I might just go "Meh."

Very pretty,

If the full game will give me a few hours of what the demo did, then I'm interested, if its over in a flash, I won't be happy.
I was plesantly surprised as to how well it ran with an A64 3000, 1GB & 128MB 6800LE Mind!

Well, thats all folks,I'm back to Battlefield 2. :D

Likewise. Thought the demo was excellent and it's the first game for a long while that has the chance to truly captivate me. Buying it on Friday for sure!

BTW, game was silky smooth and was almost always rock solid at 60 FPS throughout. Whoever said that this game doesn't look good is either not playing it on decent hardware or is an idiot basically.

One more thing, I am strange but I prefer the zoomed in 'widescreen' look. I tried using the FOV hack on the demo and I didn't like the 16:9 ratio as much for some funny reason. :p

I'm still getting 20+ fps (yea laugh, go on, with your 8800gtx's) but thats with a £30 card. looking to get a X1900XTX in a month or two.

Anyway, I played it windowed and on lowerer settings, but still looked good, maybe not 24" 60fps amazing, but still looked nice.

The thing that makes it is a low light room, some 5.1 headphones and high volume, the sounds are simply amazing and keep you on edge.

I'm hoping that Atlas (Irish guy) turns out in fact to be Bono. And there's a plot twist where you can stab him in the face.

Trust me the full game is far from linear you can move around the whole game very freely there is no blocks as such so you could go right to the end of the game then if you missed a big daddy at the first level you can walk back through it all to get there its like one big world

Ok, cool :) - Like I said, doesn't put me off playing it anyway.

Er, forgot to say - E6400, 2 gig Corsair, XFX 7600GT - runs smoothly and looks great, all details set to maximum in Bioshock at 1280x1024 :)

I think when there were 3 or 4 splicers and bots on the screen it slowed a little but there was no jerkiness. Seems to run very nicely!

the powers in it reminded me of the jedi knight games force powers sort of but with better physics and gfx

i did like the feel of the game thought the idea and the atmosphere was very original and inventive prefered the 360 demo as my gfx card 7900gs holds it back a bit i think

I really enjoyed it and thought it exceptionally well put together I cant wait for tommorow now! Its a shame other developers cant code this well.

I would even go so far as to say the best looking game ever made!

LOL - funniest thing I'll read today.

that guy's voice is a bit ridiculous though - it's hard to get creeped out by the atmosphere when every five minutes you have to listen him go on about the "God damn 'Sploicers' "
