Anyone else getting subscription burnout?

Google photo space
PlayStation essential

So about a tenner per month.

I did have Audible but racked up five monthly credits without finding anything good, so have paused membership for three months.

I'll use this time to use up the credits then cancel.

iCloud
Google Drive
Dropbox (Cancelling this summer)
Netflix
Amazon Prime
YouTube Premium
Barclays Blue Rewards (gives me a 5% interest account and Apple TV)

Totaling around £70 a month roughly.

I cancelled Odeon Limitless and the gym during lockdown and never rejoined. That saved like £50 a month!

Is there any reason you're paying for 3 cloud storage providers? Would it not have been cheaper to increase the storage on one of those.

The iCloud popularity surprises me, is this just for lazy people who don’t back up their photos on their computers anymore?
People in genpop have computers these days?

Apple One plus a couple of pounds for more storage space. That’s iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV plus backups for many Apple devices so it’s good value for me.
Amazon Prime cause I use Amazon all the time. TV is a nice extra benefit
Disney+ but this will be junked in a couple of months. Absolute rubbish these days
YouTube Premium for FailArmy
Tidal because I got it cheap
PC Pro magazine (paper edition) cause it’s still a good read

Netflix was dumped recently because it’s just too expensive and shows nothing of interest

My point was more around maintaining it, relying on your home net access, replacing drives etc... Had many NAS's all my life, always mothball them in the end lol

I set one up for my dad about 7 years ago and to my knowledge it’s still absolutely gold.

Would probably use SSDs with it as I don’t have a huge amount writing to it after the initial backup.

Disney and Microsoft you are way better off buying a voucher for the year. Pretty sure I get my ms sub from wowcher or something lol
You can stack MS subscriptions too. The Family one is usually on offer somewhere and you can get it dirt cheap then just add it on top. I think I'm paid up until about 2027 now though. When it's shared with a few people it doesn't work out too bad.

The only other subscription I pay for is Prime as it's worth it for the TV and deliveries for us.

I feel like there’s a subscription for everything these days.

Having a worked for a company who was a pioneer of the business model in the corporate world, I understand the benefits it brings to companies - namely a more consistent revenue stream, and consistent growth.

But man, having things increase left, right and centre is frustrating as a consumer.

Sounds like you'd be interested in my Substack, which you can join for the very reasonable price of £3 per month.

The frustrating thing is when subscription is the only option for something you and are prepared to pay.

I used to have an iPod & just downloaded all my music via one off purchases. I've now got an iPhone & the only way seems to be via a subscription which bills your mobile account which is no good in my case as somebody else pays my monthly bills.

Worst thing of all is when you subscribe to something and find that the cancellation process is either deliberately obfuscated or unnecessarily complicated.

I once had an Azure subscription for some work I was doing privately - that one scared the cr@p out of my as it was so complicated to understand exactly what I was going to get billed every month.

Yeah it's annoying.
I only pay UK prices for Prime, Ring and Virgin coz you kind of have to.
We are big football watchers and to realistically get most of the televised games in the UK (legally), you really need a combination of Sky, TNT and Prime.

Nothing here. Was tempted by Netflix for the winter, but started gaming a bit again. For me it's just a case of having no interest in paying out money with the current prices of everything for "it might be good". Plenty of cheap or free media out there to stay occupied for what little i use. I'm happy to wait for films and games to drop in price also.

So i guess subscription bills did burn me out to some extent, even if my outgoings with them were always minimal.

You 100% didn't have to go the Ring route

Not when there is 1 service that includes all streaming at a low overall cost.
Not got time for multiple different services splitting everything.
