Anyone else getting subscription burnout?

Well that's Apple gone at last as there is nothing left on there of any interest to us now that Silo has finished. To be honest there wasn't a lot on there in the first place just Invasion, Foundation, For All Mankind, Silo and a couple of others. Way too much pay extra for stuff and even then only if you have a Apple device which we don't. Just Prime (too much pay extra stuff on there as well and don't get me started on the ad's), Netflix and Disney+ left. Disney is going to be gone next month as I went to cancel in November and they offered us three months at £6.99 a month for the top package which ends in mid February. If I had my way Netflix would be gone as well as there is so much garbage on there now.

I take advantage of free trials, binge and the rinse and repeat every few years. Will maybe buy Disney for a few months to watch homeland as it will workout cheaper than buying the dvds.

I have apple ATM and we are working our way through severence, am I right in thinking there are no free movies on it?

I have a TV license, expensive but I suppose subsidising our greatest export is almost worth it.

If you haven't already, watch Slow Horses.

I'm pretty subscription light at the moment.

- Youtube I've never subbed to and never will, I use Brave to browse it and avoid ads, and I don't care about the higher bitrate.
- Spotify I've no interest in.
- Apple I just cancelled, although I do find it decent value compared to some of the other options and they do often release shows I enjoy.
- Netflix pricing for 4K is a pee take so they can do one.
- Disney + has little to nothing of interest for me par the very rare show, I might sub once in a blue moon.
- Amazon I have mostly due to my prime sub for deliveries.
- Crunchyroll I sub to occasionally if an anime season looks particularly interesting.

So currently just Amazon.

Im worried to actually list the subscriptions i currently have, but here we go

-Apple, although im becoming increasingly annoyed by it and i can see it going shortly, but as we are on a family subscription might be harder to cancel
-Netflix havent got the top end 4k package but the wife uses it a lot
-Disney+ bought for the kids, but find myself watching it more than them (marvel films and the star wars series)
-Amazon, dont have it for any other reason other than the deliveries
-PC gamepass, i tell myself there is games on there i really want to play, but end up playing my games on steam
-Humble Bundle just to add games to my ever growing collection on steam, however the last couple of months have been rubbish and not worth the sub

I don't pay for any subscriptions. I don't think I ever have. But my wife pays for Netflix & Spotify (Philippines). I use them both. Maybe I'm petty but I would rather make the effort to acquire movies and series manually, then pay what I consider to be rip-off subscription prices. It's not really a huge effort to get whatever I'm interested in.

I never got on the subscription craze, I fill like an outsider at times but when I see companies that make kitchen products and computer peripherals (Logitech) trying to impose a subscription model for their products it makes me glad that m a skeptic.

The biggest one for me is roughly around £100 per month for mobile phone data + broadband + line rental :(:(
I wouldn't classify phone and broadband/line rental as subscriptions; instead, I see them as necessities. Without these services, could you fully participate in modern life? For instance, can you manage your banking without the Internet? Are local branches open when you need them?

A subscription is an additional service to basic needs in contemporary society. While you could argue that utilities like electricity, water, and a mortgage function as subscriptions, services like Netflix are not essential for day-to-day living.

Looking through mine I have:-

Microsoft Ultimate (Free perk through EE)
O365
Netflix (Slightly cheaper through Sky)
Sky
Disney
Prime (wife pays for)
Paramount + (Through Sky)
Discovery + (Through Sky)

Apple does have its own movies, not a huge selection as it’s only Apple produced stuff, some are fairly good, Coda is well worth a watch.
Tv series, some of my favourites have been Slow Horses, Servant, Lessons in Chemistry.
I need to watch The new series of Severance soon.
Apple TV is definitely the best when it comes to free trials!

I've got subscriptions coming out of the wazoo.

Amazon Prime
Apple Music (Free with EE)
AppleTV
Disney+
2TB iCloud
Youtube Premium
Strava
Trainer Road
Zwift
Monzo Plus
Uber Eats Premium
Deliveroo+ (via Amazon)
Our Sky includes Netflix, Paramount and Discovery

On one hand I'd like to cancel some but the reality is I do use all of them

I see where you’re coming from.

But a lot of the time the price many people pay could be reduced,
Like myself I could change from a 60mb to 40mb broadband or knock my mobile data allowance down if I wanted to save a few quid per month

Very similar to a lot of people on here for me. It terms of what I subscribe to. I do think its time for a cull though.

As for subscriptions in general, oddly I dont really mind the idea of a subscription service like Netflix/Spotify/Youtube etc etc as I feel that when I'm using them I am actually being served so to speak. I dont feel that I need to own a film or anything, as I'm not overly likely to watch it again, plus I dont want to store that media either ( physically or digitally ) ... so the service is doing something for me.

Yet I detest software subscriptions like Adobe. I'd much much rather have a one-off payment for stuff like that. Its almost like I feel that the software isn't 'doing' anything for me to earn its monthly money ... its me that's doing the doing, and having to pay for it repeatedly.

I'm on a 6 month free student trial of prime I signed up for in December as they don't verify, just made a new email address so that's sorted for half a year.

Netflix HD for lad and missus, I barely watch it, think the quality is overall pretty awful.

D+ for the lad, annual membership at £40 - although it has some excellent shows sporadically, The Bear, Andor for example.

Youtube premium family currently at £9 but should be able to renew in UKR next week for about £2.60.

Apple TV give out free trials like halloween sweets and can normally get a 3/4/5 month trial on and off through the year so cover off anything they have.

No spotify as YT music covers that requirement and it's frankly got a lot more choice and selection.

Audible is on and off through the year but i've never paid full price because as soon as you cancel for a month, you get offered another 3 at 50%.

I totally agree with you. I only pay £8 a month for my Giffgaff tariff. Of course, I could pay more, but I simply don't use it enough.

I only had Discovery+ at £7/month purely so I could watch the snooker. Yesterday it was announced that all Eurosport content in the UK is now going to TNT Sport - and the price goes up to £31/month. Brilliant.

Cancelled my Discovery+ immediately and now I guess I can't watch the snooker anymore.

The greed of these company's knows no bounds.
