Anyone else save Pennies?

A few years back, after my ex moved out, I went round the house collecting all the coins that had been accumulated into piles and took them to the coin sorting machine at the local supermarket... got nearly £100 back :)

I don't use cash if I can avoid it, so my purse never has coppers in it anyway. When I was a kid, we always got at least one jar of roses from relatives at Christmas, so that's what my parents always used for coins.

I'm the same with the Whisky bottle, just put in the 1,2 and 5's. As I don't spend that much cash, I don't accumulate that much.

Only really spend cash in the pubs, almost everything else is on card.

When it's full I intend on sorting out properly.

I have an overflowing shoe box containing 1,2,5,10,20,50,100p coins.

yup, i use a maltesers tub and just throw in any coin I have at the end of each day. Got about £140 in about 6 weeks or so. I'm using this method to save for my hols in aug, you don't notice the odd bit of change disappear but boy does it add up fast.

Just started filling mine up again, hopefully it should be full by the end of the year.

I saw on the news this couple for around 20 years picked up any loose change they found on the street floors, houses, public places and eventually when they cashed it all in had over £300,000. So I've started picking up pennies around the house.... you never know lol

At Tesco they have a good machine that you can put change in to and it cashes it out in notes. We made a tenner the other day!

My mate saved up enough pennies to by a pS3.

We took it down to the local Asda and changed it up in one of those machine.
I think they are called "change machines"

It took hours

We have finally decided to sort all ours out. We have bags of 2p and 1p all over the place and have finally put them all together in a carrier bag and are going to go to the local Tesco in the week to put them in the machine there. The bag is quite heavy so no idea how much there is in there.

One for copper, one for silver (well, silver + £1/£2). Last years had over £500, this years looks like its off to a good start, but far less £1's and £2's so far!

I normally chuck anything under 20p in the pot and take it down the bank when it's up to the top. Get about £25 in mine.

Those machines in the supermarket take 5-10% of your money. Take it to the bank and stop feeding the likes of Tesco.

I currently have 2 full 3 litre smirnoff bottles with over £50 in 1p and 2p coins and am having to use a box file for the overflow.

I put anything 5p and under on my desk, and its become rather a big pile. I've almost finished my current peanut butter jar so I might use that.

I have a Large plastic coke bottle (Made intentionally as a money bank) about 2 and a bit foot high that I pop any coin other than a £ coin in. Usually get a fair few £2 coins in there too. I cashed in £340 last christmas after collecting for about 7 months! This year im just chucking 'spare' money in. Anything I dont spend out of weekly cash allowance goes in. I think theres about £80 in there so far. Includes 5 £5 notes.

I don’t carry anything smaller than 50p, the rest is thrown in a jar and gets banked once in a while or gets used by my wife.

I guess that 5-10% is from peoples' laziness. Most banks make you count it and bag it before they'll accept jars/tins of money these days..
