Anyone else think Half life 2 is poo

In terms of single-player, I think that Halflife 1 is the finest FPS ever made. When it was released, it was a revolution and few games even more manage to tell a story so well. The opening sequence is fantastic and I wish more games would follow it's "no cut scenes" policy.

Halflife 2 was never going to be such a genre-defining game. I found it to be very enjoyable though. Again, I thought the opening sequeneces were fantastic.

yeah, but I recon Quake 2 was a better story.

Its a shame that Quake 4 was a Doom3 "Bandwagon Special"
 
Didn't think much of HL2 here either. Gameplay wasn't bad, but it just didn't grab me. The whole 'Gordon doesn't talk' thing was rubbish too, and it was every bit as linear as Doom. Got bored around about nova prospect.

At least Doom had an interesting setting that kept you wanting to see more. HL2 had run down eastern european cities. I can see one of them any time I want to :p
 
HL1 was groundbreaking, HL2 was innovative and brilliant..
Episode I : HL2 was very poor, so overall the series is a winner for me :P

Yes, it did keep you wanting more, but alas, as in the entire of the game... You never got it... Instead rather than getting more, you got the same.

HL1, HL2, both great single player games......

Oblivion great, upto when you've seen half the world and you can't help getting that feeling that the world revolves around you and nothing is really going on, other then you running around doing what you want. Great whilst you're still learning it, but after that it is boring........ I've leveled 2 characters upto 33 and done a good amount of the quests, main and side, and i'm bored as hell with it, and the engine is just stupid, many games are managing to look nearly/as good without bringing your system to a crawl at busy periods. I have all the expansions to, so please don't tell me i've not done enough, i've done too much and now it just BORES ME!

Now CSS, thats a game i cannot see the fuss about........ its got more hackers then a pub dart board has pricks, and its really not that great a game , yet its one of the most played games.

So what i will say is...... 'each to his own' , we all want different things from games.

Actually I agree on oblivion too!

I got as far as about 10 minutes into it, I just met up with someone... Did I fight him? Yeah, I think I must have, but it was such a ridiculously lame game that I gave up totally on it. Still got the game however, and I might give it another shot, but from the small bit of gamign I have played, I was stunned by the visuals and even more stunned by the way it drilled into my brain.
 
It's my favourite single player game ever.

It really sucked me in, in terms of gameplay the mavity gun was awesome fun, thinking back there's so many awesome moments, such as the helicopter and boat chases, driving along the highway and stopping off at the little encampments to take out the soilders, then that bit with the big bridge! And ravenholm. :cool: Gonna play it now actually.
 
I like HL2, though it's not the classic the HL1 is.

Doom3 again a good game.

FarCry was excellent imo

I also really liked fear, thought the gameplay was better than any of the others when played on the hardest setting - prob my fav FPS at the moment. I surprised so many people dont like it!
 
i loved hl2, i was gutted when it ended. The phys-gun was great, but really, it was a bit poo how you're practically in godmode with it =/ makes it too easy, it was already easy enough!!
It was a great game. I played through Quake4 not so long after, also BRILLIANT!!! i played it on hardest difficulty too which made it even better, sometimes i was longing for the mavity gun though. Far cry was good too, i think far cry could have been amazing in co-op, flanking etc, decoy noises pulled off in more comedy ways. Serious Sam2 was also pretty good, also on hardest(SERIOUS) difficulty, especially in co-op :D

HL2 was great, but i kinda agree, it did miss something special, the story telling was good, but thinking back i wish there was more magic in the game.
 
You dont like picking up circular saws with the mavity gun and throwing it against mutants wich get cut in half :eek: ???

Although i admit i dont like the part of the game im at now, i really enjoyed any mission before highway 17 or 47 or whatever, its the only game ive played where u can pick up things, have to modify your envoirement, where its realistic, where gfx are nice, where there are horror bits and vehicles all in 1 game :D...
 
would have liked to see a level where you had to build something with the crane and use it to kill some evil little monsters :(
 
well i finally got round to finishing HL2 tonight :) Naff ending, some pretty poorly designed levels so on average id say it was ok. Is Ep1 really that bad? Was thinking or ordering it but it doesnt sound like it was up to much.
 
I thought it was ridiculously hard... Come to think of it I did have it on hard setting.

I kept running out of ammo all the time, and it was far too short.

FAAAARRRRR TOO SHORT.

If you look at HL2, you had a fair bit in each section didnt you?

You had Prospekt Nova, You had Revenholm, you had the water hazzard, you had the sand traps etc etc etc...

E1 is like one of those.

So, if E2 & E3 are the same length as E1, then it will still be a far smaller
If E2 is as short as E1 then that will close the final curtain for me on HL

indeed, its nowhere near as long as hl2.

I felt it was overpriced, although if ep2 is the same price i wont complain, as portal&TF2 come with it. HAVE YOU SEEN THE TF2 VIDS? hah, they'r immense!

You have said everything I was thinkling right there, especially the HL2 weapons being really poor and no kill satisfaction.

Just bough FEAR for £8 the other week and loved it. Still have Far Cry to complete!
 
HL2 is certainly one of the best single player games I've ever played. Some chapters in the game dragged on slightly, but I definitely enjoyed completing twice.

For me, the biggest let down in the game was of course the ending and the total time it took to complete the game, I wanted to keep going and going!
