Anyone going to wait to see if there are more GPU models on the way?

The most obvious gap in the market is at the £500-£600 price range, for Nvidia. AMD has 2 reference models in this range, both ahead of nvidia's £470 GPU, but behind the £650 rtx 3080 reference model.

Some have mentioned a possible rtx 3080 ti, but with the rtx 3080 already ahead of the RX 6800 XT, im not so sure there's a need for one - it would have to beat the RX 6900 XT to be worthwhile.

then, there's the mid/lower end where NV dominates, AMD is apparently releasing the 6700 series in q1 2021.

So, are you going to wait, or try your best to buy a new GPU, despite low / non existent stock?

Or, is anyone going to wait for rdna 3 / the rtx 4000 series?

Decided on a 6900XT or 3080ti, happy to wait until well into the new year.

Having ageing 1080ti I don't want to sit this gen out. I'd really love an all AMD system again.

Well for me I'm not desperate, I had originally ordered the rtx 3080 but ocuk bumped up the prices seconds upon ordering so I cancelled ages ago. I was recently considering getting the rtx 3090 but the prices once again are in the rip off area. The choices from amd looked interesting but my LG E9 OLED only supports nvidia gsync so it's pointless grabbing one.

I've decided to just wait and save up for the rtx 3090ti instead that's the plan. I've just spent around £1300 on house improvement stuff for now.

Cheers.

NV didn't bother to compete at the $501-$698 price range with the rtx 2000 series... instead, the rtx 2080 and later the rtx 2080 super rrp was $699, then $500 for the rtx 2070, kind of odd.

does make me wonder if they will repeat this pattern for the rtx 3000 series - I hope not.

If I hadn't caught an RX 6800 at near MSRP I think I would've just ended up waiting for the next jump in 2022 (and it would also coincide with DDR5 & a platform upgrade) because by the time things get "back to normal" it's gonna be near summer. At that point - meh. What's 1 more year? Plus I feel like this gen is still compromising for 4K (even without all ultra settings) and/or ray tracing. So there's less incentive to really buy a beefy and expensive GPU knowing that I'd probably upgrade again soon anyway.

I think Ampere on 7nm is going to give AMD some headaches, if ready for q1/q2 2021 and the super variants offer min 50 fps+ at 4k in all games... apparently these products will be available in 'large volume'.

if only we knew more about this, the decision would be easy then

I picked up at 3060Ti for the second PC in the house which is currently rocking a RX580 which struggles with VR on Rift S.

Main rig has Vega on a full loop which is holding up ok at 1440p. The 3060Ti will give me a reference point for DLSS and RT to see if I actually value it, not to impressed by what I've seen on Youtube but that's compressed..
Interested to see how the market and 'competition' works out. My next 'main' card needs 12GB+ VRAM, but if I can get another generation or half a generation from the Vega, that would be ideal... I like to get my monies worth.

Either a discount RX6800/XT or a 7nm Nvidia with >12GB are the candidates... no rush, quite happy to run high or medium settings and need to wait until water blocks are confirmed.

I would buy a 3080 if I could get one but by the time that's even possible there may be other variations. I would be particularly interested in one with more memory.

I still think the 3080 is the golden card if you can get near msrp due to RT and DLSS. I don't see the extra vram and small performance boost of the 3080ti being worth it, they were going to charge £300+ more? I would probably only keep the 3080 two years and if vram issues came up I would turn off a few features.

I don't think there will be an rtx 3080 ti, or 3070 ti, or they would've been announced by now. with the rtx 2000 series, we got 1 'Ti' graphics card, and it was launched alongside other gpus in the series.

I think there will be 7nm Super versions of the 3070, 3080, just like the 2070 S and 2080 S.

With potential upgraded NV versions in a 3-6 months, the only appealing card in my case, is the rtx 3060 TI FE and that's if availability improves.

there's a small chance it could be announced this year - otherwise, not at all...

I don't see the point really, if its true 7nm tsmc based Ampere is on the way.

I might get something when the rtx3000 mid range cards (probably talking 3060 non-Ti/3050 Ti here) finally get stock good stock levels and pricing, but that's probably going to be like Easter at the very earliest.

NVIDIA has to release 3080 Ti in January as a paper launch with availability around March-April. If it is not released in Jan, it severely decreases the shelf like of the 3080 Ti as 7nm Super refresh of Ampere or Hopper would be expected in 2H21.

translation of the report from here:
https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/nvidia-allegedly-moving-ampere-to-7-nm-tsmc-in-2021.html

'The reason for NVIDIA's transfer of orders is that TSMC's 7nm offer is relatively close to the people, and the other is that it has previously planned to diversify risks to deal with Samsung's 8nm yield problem. The NVIDIA 7nm large order is also one of TSMC's important customers to maintain high -end 7nm capacity utilization in 2021.'

the most obvious gap in the market is the $200-$300 range actually.

There are more than enough mid range and high end models, what we dont have is entry level cards

thats true, but not really a problem, there's still the rx 500 series and rx 5600 XT for the low-mid end price ranges.
