Anyone into Gundam (or Gunpla)

In Singapore for a few weeks and have some space in the luggage. Went to hobby art gallery and picked up a rg sazabi and rg aile strike and a new stand for my mg freedom. Friendly staff too.

They were saying that a lot of their stock are not due until September and even then it’s speculation.

Finally had some free time to make a few more of these after a busy few months. Still sticking with the smaller 144s to complete my shelf display.

This 144 High grade Z-Gok is such an old model it doesn't even have any English on the instructions, but it's easy to build and I actually had the right colours to paint most all of the exterior using Gundam markers. For a model that only cost £10.99 I got hours of time out of it, the markers took to its surface really well for only needing a single coat and the finished model almost looks metal in person.

Have a couple more built ready to post, but it'd be great to see any other updates from others too.

I’ve got a couple of mega size 1/48 scale. 15 MG 1/100, 1 HG 1/100, 1 RG 1/144 and 2 HG 1/144 built currently, I’ve got a PG 1/60 but haven’t found the courage to tackle that one yet.
Will take some pictures at some point.

Bit of a thread bump.

This is my first ever Gundam kit, part of my recent birthday stash. Really enjoyed the build and the level of engineering in even a basic model is truly impressive. This is the Entry Grade RX-78-2 Gundam Full Weapon Set (still got to build the other weapons).

I have invested in a better pair of single edge cutters and some lining Markers and metallic paint pens, with more on my wishlist for the future.

I also built the Entry Grade RX-93 yesterday, which has a bit more detail, so I am trying out some panel lining before I take a picture. I need to get some display bases and a shelf to put them on  .

Edit: got the image link working.

Went down a rabbit hole for Gunpla over the last few months after building a Starfleet Big Dai-X (childhood memberberries) and then Youtube started throwing Gunpla videos at me :D

and now I have spent a lot of money on all sorts of crafting and airbrushing tools and also have all of these to build now :D Currently just starting a practice run on an AliExpress HG RGM-79S Spartan

@BeelzebubUK. That is one hell of a stash and has many of my wishlist kits. Love the Big Dai-X and certainly takes me back a bit.

This is my small pile of starter bits to get me started. I know I have more from my wife and kids on Christmas as I had to do the shopping :p.

My second build was finished a couple of nights ago, the EG RX-93. I tried out a bit of post build panel lining and used the gold Stedi Markers for a bit of bling.

I am aiming to build the HG Zaku II next and I might try lining on the sprue. I intend to matt varnish them once I get my airbrush setup somewhere for ventilation.

Edit: I meant to say that on both of those EG kits I cut the front skirt hinge so the left and right can move separately. It does give a bit more freedom in posing the legs.

I haven't used it yet but ventilation was a bit difficult where I wanted to setup my airbrushing area but I saw a video using a bucket with water in it so I bought a dual fan spray booth and the hose goes into the bucket with carbon foam on the end of the hose and around the cutout in the bucket :

I thought panel lining should be done after painting or top coating as the liners can potentially damage some types of plastic?

Edit - just seems to be enamel liners like Tamiya panel liner that don't like ABS

Yeah I read about that and looks like it applies to enamel based ones. I practiced on a cheap kit just to be safe but I'm not sure what time frames are involved.

Edit: Just scrolled up and saw your post about the spray booth and bucket. Do you have any issues with paint dust/residue in the room after using that. If not it would be perfect.

Couldn't tell you as I haven't actually used it yet :D

Probably will next week when I've finished this Spartan model but only going to be doing a varnish on it although will probably practice on something with a few colours too whilst I have everything all out. In principle it should work really well as long as the spray booth sucks it all in. There's no way for it to get out of the bucket.

Hope it works well, I can't wait to get some more use out of mine. I should have gone with a spray booth for a present but the urge for shiney plastic was too strong  .

Finished building the HG RGM-79S Spartan that I got from Temu for £15. Everything fitted well and pretty tight for posing. No complaints at all. Topcoating, panel lining and decals next :)

Didn't realise this was a P-Bandai model. Normally £45-50. It's even cheaper on AliExpress. Just search for XFS Spartan and there are several colours all for about £7 to choose from
