Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

The reason I decided in the end not to give up is that an upgrade from a RX 480 to a RX 6600 cost me £80 in the end.

This is the annoying thing for us that haven't got a card new enough to have gained value. Buying into the new prices from nothing is quite painful.

I got a 580 2nd hand for a reasonable *gulp* price. But selling and buying into a the new gen is zero net gain.

£80 for a 6600 is nice, hope it does you well :)

I almost bought a 3060ti FE this morning for RRP but I just couldn't do it. l don't really want the cooler it comes with. Looks noisy and like it runs hot. I think I'm out till eithe prices drop and I can get a card with a decent cooler for a reasonable price or I'll get something second hand when it all inevitably crashes.

I used a 3060ti FE for a month, you are absolutely wrong, it's dead silent, temperatures are fairly decent as well, undervolted you can easily keep it under 60c and without any fan noise, cooler is more than "decent", if anything it has a proper "premium" feeling and look to it.

In that case I'll consider it again next time if I get another chance. Still a bit more than I want to/can afford to spend really but it seems to be the only card that it makes sense to buy at the moment.

Yeah I know what you mean, even 360 quid can be a hefty amount, before you coudl easily find decent cards for 100-200 quid (OCUK had RX 580s for 100 quid at some point if I remember correctly)

I've basically said to myself that I'll get some money together and just pre order the 4000 series when it's released. I don't care if it takes ages to get it

Not with you because the FE prices are the lowest you will get brand new on the latest 30 series.. unless you feel >£300 for a mid range card (1440p) is a rip off? because the x060 range has always been around this price point, generally that's why AMD used to be the better option and you got a Vega56.

You will looking at about this time next year.

to be blunt unless prices take a huge correction i can see many of us doing this. i can afford to drop silly money on a card but i just cant stomach paying the current market prices. even the £650 rrp of the 3080fe was more than id have liked to pay and yes compared to today (and the past year) its a good deal if you can get one, but lets be honest we are over 12 months in to the life cycle, normally you'd have expected a few deals nudging £500 by now. if things dont change i wouldnt be surprised to see 4000 cards being priced just as high come next year :/

Personally I'm just waiting for APUs to reach RX 580 performance levels to change, I won't need more than 1080p for the next 5 years anyway.

with the current market not sure how long you could be waiting, as id expect rdna2 stuff next year should be able to do it, but who knows if amd and intel for that matter will push them.

I actually do feel that it's a rip off. Previous mid range card I've purchased have alway been sub £200 and these are pushing £400. In those 7 years my wages haven't doubled.

5600g/5700g are pretty much the RX 550/GT 1030 as of now

yeah, just from a selling gpu standpoint not sure how far amd (and intel to a lesser extent) will want to chop the legs out of the lower end cards they could still be trying to sell.

amd has many a time over the years gone down the route of performance per watt rather than pure performance as a selling point so you never know if come the rdna igpu's if they just go for slightly better performance but on less power again.

If you can buy one, just flip it, they sell for stupid money as they're a great mining card and then use that money to buy a more powerful card for gaming.

I understand the wage, money and card prices in that context. I normally for years would buy a £200 card. Then one black friday special broke the rule and spent £300 for my vega56 thinking that was a rip off! Sadly cards under £300 will now net you something that beats a 1030 but is not even a 3060.. depends on what you do and how you can make the best of it I guess.

One thing for sure is GPU prices wont come down much now and in short term (next couple of years) prepare for some more harsh prices!!
