Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

I refuse to comply with this madness. I will just have to wait. I gather now that is at least May/June time now. It just HUGELY sucks that gamers are getting screwed yet again. I don't care who's fault it is, I just care that we can never get the products we want without being mercilessly ripped off by, well, just about everyone.

I didn't bother and don't feel any different for it, kind of feel indifferent reading all the people who tried and succeeded or failed.

I've sold my monitor and pc is in a box, selling it while prices are high and getting a console is becoming more and more tempting
I understand your point of view and part of me feels the same, but I can't get one of those consoles either. Still, first world problems and all that.

It would take me a while to sell the pc parts anyway so I would have time to hunt one down. I don't even know what console I would prefer at this stage

Yes, it's a tough choice. The PS5's SSD is superior and the CPU supposedly uses the unified cache design from Zen 3, so it's something of a hybrid, whereas XBOX's GPU is more powerful on paper although not so much in practice so far (other than in Hitman 3). However, there are wildcards like the PS5's geometry engine that could have a big impact. I'm leaning towards XBOX myself because I think Game Pass is great value for money although I've flip flopped between the two at various points.

Would you use which ever console you might decide on at a desk with a monitor or with a TV?

One of my biggest issues with going console is I'll need to use it a desk

Been waiting 3 months for an RTX3080 through work (save on tax and NI so big saving and pay monthly through salary sacrifice), stock from the supplier was instantly being snapped up before the account managers could order. So I've swapped it for a pre built 5950X, 3090 PC now, ordered confirmed today :D Even these sold out at a ridiculous rate, just about managed to snag the last one. £3500 total but should save £1000ish through salary sacrifice so was a no brainer in the end.

PS5 doesn't support 1440p.

So you're best bet is either using a 1080p TV/monitor, or a 4K TV/monitor.

If you use a 1440p or 4K monitor, these don't yet come with HDMI 2.1, so you're probably locked at 60hz.

XSX -> proper 1440p support and VRR can be used.
PS5 -> 1080p/4K output only and no VRR (60/120 only).

Sony are really dragging their feet here.

I was going to plug it into my 1440P monitor (another reason to get the XBOX) while I wait for the superior mini LED and OLED 2nd gen 2021 TVs to come out with hopefully much better options across all price points. I think it's got reasonable keyboard and mouse support too, depending on the game.

Sounds like I've shot myself in the foot selling my 1440p monitor!
You'd probably be limited to 60Hz and you miss out on VRR unless you have Freesync/Gsync compatible (I have a Gsync module in my monitor which will not work with the XBOX). What monitor did you sell and what do you have now?

I had a Dell S2719DGF so 1440p 144hz and Freesync

I haven't replaced it yet because I have no idea what I'm doing :p

I think I would want a 4k monitor for a console

Yes, ideally. Also, high refresh rate makes a big difference when games use the 120 FPS mode. Some people have been wall mounting a 48" LG OLED TV and using that as a monitor (or on the desk if you have a deep desk), if you can and want to do this I'd wait for the 2021 models which are far superior.

Me too. I'll buy a 3080 Ti if they come out at a reasonable price. I can't justify the current prices being asked for mid tier (3070/3080/6800/6800xt) cards.
