Anyone just given up on looking for a new GPU?

..at retail prices (still).

The fact that the 6500 XT got "discounted" (you know what I mean) and is still sitting on shelves is a good first step. Yes you can say it's a bad card, but it's the first time in years that market has said "no, this card is just not worth this much money".

The worst graphics card ever launched. Epic fail with x4 PCIe and no hardware acceleration whatsoever. 107 sq. mm die with crazy through-the-roof native overclock and additional 6-pin power supply connector...
I don't think a normal user should ever consider that mistake of a card for their rigs..

I think my first dedicated card was a PCI GeForce 2 mx200, cost about 100 quid and had it as a present, but even that was decent ish for a budget card since i think most they went was about 200-300 max back then anyway.

This is just obvious facts from a consumer standpoint which makes sense. As in even normal consumers can see this is a turd card.

The reason its on shelves is a given. The remaining question to qualify if GPU state is in a better place is the other tiers before we get too excited.

I'll believe it when I will see the actual selling prices. RTX 3050 is simply unavailable in Italy, 6500XT over 300€ and 6600 between 550 and 600€ for the cheapest model, ridiculous.

It was a managed shortage to DIY builders IMHO - companies just diverted more supply to miners, and laptop/desktop companies. Its why I noticed for several months it wasn't that hard to find a decently specced sub £1000 gaming desktop or laptop. Even some of the miners realised that and tried to mine on gaming laptops.

In 2020 we had a true shortage, but with so many people and companies having WFH infrastructure in place by 2021,and the world opening up,I have a feeling gamers might have somewhat not helped their own situation by paying beyond the odds.
SI and Laptop manufacturers paid much lower than us as they're usually locked into long term contracts with their suppliers, allowing them to be cheaper than us. Or at least that's the explanation I heard.

That is the thing AMD/Nvidia/Intel and their partners cannot strongarm them as much as they can us and computer component supply shops - this is why I personally think I am going to start changing tact if prices keep staying high. Sometimes parts have been cheaper to buy as a complete system FFS!

Spotted this "offer" on another site, pretty sure even at the height of this retardedness this gpu was never priced this high.

Saw that a night ago, they certainly weren't that high. I think i sold my TUF 3080 at the right time for 1100 even if it wasn't LHR, looks like pricing is starting to come down slowly now and cards are actually being in stock for a bit.

Well at some point, these gen cards have been out well over a year now so lots of people have obtained some of the pot. This would explain why at some point there is saturation, and part of this will also be retailers listing them at a price where normal folk wont bite.

2.5 years ago the 2080Super was released which would have been I guess your 3080 equivalent today. The difference today is the card is trying to command £1200 whereas the super was around £700.

I have just decided I'm gonna skip this gen hopefully by next gen there might be something to buy and all this would be a little better with intel joining the fray.

I just managed to sell my Vega 56 for the same price as a new 6600xt on FB… worth the small upgrade considering I haven’t paid a penny.

Yeh same, well i sold my vega 56 a while back for £310 on the bay, then hang tight for about 2 months sitting on discord and nabbed a 3060Ti FE for msrp. So a big upgrade for only £50!
